LayerZero (ZRO) Rallies 8% Ahead of $45 Million Token Unlock
Published October 19, 2026, 9:55 PM PKT. Based on Binance ZROUSDT live market data and CoinGecko's trending API snapshot on October 19, 2026 (primary source material), CryptoTimes' October 19, 2026 unlock-week report with DeFiLlama token unlock data (primary source material), CoinDesk's September 25, 2026 report on the KelpDAO lawsuit (secondary source), The Block's September 25, 2026 report on the KelpDAO lawsuit (secondary source), and Finnhub market data (secondary source). MABOnChain has not previously covered this story.
LayerZero's ZRO token rose about 8% on October 19, 2026, trading at $1.909 on Binance with an intraday high of $1.985, as buyers stepped in one day before a scheduled token unlock that DeFiLlama's token unlock tracker valued at about $44.77 million. The move put ZRO among CoinGecko's daily trending coins, even though scheduled supply releases usually pressure prices rather than lift them.
The October 20 unlock
DeFiLlama's tracker lists a LayerZero ZRO unlock for October 20 as part of a busy unlock calendar for the week of October 19 to 25, according to CryptoTimes' October 19 report. DeFiLlama's October 19 snapshot valued the ZRO release at about $44.77 million, the second-largest of the week behind TON's GRAM unlock, valued at about $49.23 million and scheduled for October 23, CryptoTimes reported. Humanity's H unlock, valued at about $16.79 million on October 23, Avalanche's AVAX unlock at about $16.23 million on October 24, and Plasma's XPL unlock at about $10.88 million on October 25 complete the headline schedule. Crypto-Economy put the week's total scheduled releases at $793.6 million. An unlock makes previously restricted tokens transferable under a vesting schedule; it does not mean recipients sell right away, and the effect on price depends on the size of the release against circulating supply, who receives the tokens and the state of demand, CryptoTimes noted.
An 8% rally against the unlock playbook
Binance data showed ZROUSDT up 8.04% over 24 hours at $1.909, with roughly $11.5 million in spot quote volume and a session range from $1.731 to $1.985. At $1.909, the $44.77 million unlock works out to about 23.5 million ZRO, close to 6% of the roughly 400 million tokens in circulation, based on circulating-supply figures cited by Bybit and CoinGecko. The token is still about 74% below its December 5, 2024 record of $7.47 and bottomed near $0.707 on July 31, 2026, according to Bybit's market data, though Finnhub data puts ZRO's one-month return at about 75.5%. No project-specific catalyst was announced in the 24 to 48 hours before the move, which suggests the advance was driven by positioning and search interest rather than fresh news.
The KelpDAO lawsuit overhang
The rally also comes while LayerZero fights a lawsuit filed in late September by KelpDAO, the liquid restaking protocol. CoinDesk reported on September 25 that KelpDAO's parent company, Evercrest Technologies, filed a notice of civil claim in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against LayerZero Labs and co-founder Bryan Pellegrino over the April 18 exploit of 116,500 rsETH, worth about $292 million at the time, which was linked to North Korea's Lazarus Group. The filing alleges negligent misrepresentation, negligence and defamation, claiming LayerZero reviewed and endorsed the 1-of-1 decentralized verifier network configuration used by the exploited bridge, The Block reported. Pellegrino called the claim meritless and said he would defend it in court, CoinDesk reported. The case adds legal risk to the token's setup just as new supply is about to unlock.

Crypto.com and Novig Sue Missouri to Block Sports Prediction Market Crackdown
Crypto.com's North American Derivatives Exchange and Novig sued Missouri officials in federal court on October 16, 2026, arguing that federal commodities law gives the CFTC exclusive jurisdiction over their sports event contracts and preempts the state's bid to regulate them as unlicensed gambling. The suits follow cease-and-desist letters Attorney General Catherine Hanaway sent in September to six prediction market operators, with a 30-day compliance window.
Justin Sun Sold 80% to 90% of His Ethereum Near $4,000 and Pivoted to Nvidia
TRON founder Justin Sun disclosed in an interview published October 16, 2026 that he sold 80% to 90% of his Ethereum, mostly between $3,600 and $4,000, and moved much of the proceeds into U.S. equities, with Nvidia his largest single stock holding. Before the reduction, Ethereum had been his largest cryptocurrency position. He now keeps about 20% of his original ETH as a core asset, says he has no plans to buy back, and left his core Bitcoin untouched in cold storage over concerns about quantum computing and AI threats to cryptography. The sale itself happened months ago, not this week.

No project-specific catalyst was announced in the last 48 hours, so the rally is attention and search driven.

Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier Clashes With Karpeles Over $90M Hardware Wallet Implants
Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier publicly clashed with former Mt. Gox chief Mark Karpeles on X over how early Ledger knew about sophisticated hardware spy implants and how loudly it warned customers. Gauthier defended Ledger's response and called Karpeles 'no white knight,' referencing the 2014 Mt. Gox collapse, after Karpeles argued that clearer warnings in March could have prevented more than $90 million in user losses tied to tampered devices.
Filecoin's Solstice Upgrade Goes Live Today, Rewiring Block Rewards Toward Paid Storage
Filecoin's nv29 mainnet upgrade, codenamed Solstice, activates October 19, 2026 at epoch 6470279, implementing FIP-0118: the share of block rewards going to consensus-only mining steps down from 95% toward a 50% floor over about nine quarters, while a new service share starting at 5% flows to Registered Service Orchestrators that drive paid demand, with any unearned service share burned instead of paid out. The activation lands days after six-year genesis vesting ended, a change expected to cut daily new FIL issuance by about 75%. Binance suspended FIL deposits and withdrawals at 11:59 UTC on October 19, while spot trading stays open.
