Justin Sun Sold 80% to 90% of His Ethereum Near $4,000 and Pivoted to Nvidia
Published October 19, 2026, 4:15 PM PKT. Based on Justin Sun's statements in an interview published October 16, 2026 (primary source; quotes reported October 18, 2026 by CryptoBriefing via TradingView, BigGo Finance, CaptainAltcoin and Wu Blockchain), CaptainAltcoin's October 18, 2026 coverage (secondary source), Wu Blockchain's October 18, 2026 interview summary (secondary source), AiCoin's October 19, 2026 snapshot (secondary source), and CoinDesk's October 19, 2026 market data (secondary source). TRON founder Justin Sun has disclosed that he sold 80% to 90% of his Ethereum, most of it between $3,600 and $4,000, and moved much of the proceeds into U.S. equities, in an interview published October 16, 2026 and widely reported on October 18. Before the reduction, Ethereum had been his largest cryptocurrency holding, which BigGo Finance described as the largest digital-asset reallocation he has publicly disclosed. Sun said he now holds about 20% of his original ETH as a base asset and has no plans to buy back what he sold.
The $3,600 to $4,000 exit
Sun said most of the selling happened in the $3,600 to $4,000 range. The exit looks well timed in hindsight. Ethereum closed near $2,402 on October 17, about 33% to 40% below his reported exit range, according to BigGo Finance. CaptainAltcoin put ETH near $2,407 on October 18. CoinDesk data on October 19 showed ether trading around $2,421 to $2,430, up about 0.75% on the day. For context, ETH peaked near $4,957 in August 2025 and climbed back to about $4,755 that October before rolling over, falling to roughly $2,624 in November, per CaptainAltcoin.
A fragile double top, not a fresh sale
Sun said the decision was driven mainly by the chart. He described Ethereum as having formed a fragile double top: the first move took ETH toward the $4,800 area, followed by a pullback, and the second push higher, in his view, depended more heavily on ETF-related demand and large buyers such as investor Tom Lee, which made the structure look less convincing to him. He treated the rebound as fragile and trimmed his exposure. Importantly, CaptainAltcoin stressed this was not a fresh sale: Sun was describing a position reduction that took place months earlier, and his comments offer more insight into how he viewed ETH's technical setup at the time than into what he plans to do next. He disclosed no trade sizes, proceeds, or precise execution dates, leaving the transactions independently unverified.
Bitcoin stays in cold storage
Sun's Bitcoin strategy was very different. He said he left his core BTC holdings untouched and has not reduced that position over the past year, keeping the coins in offline cold wallets. He tied that security choice to ongoing concerns about risks from quantum computing and AI algorithms to cryptography, a theme he has raised before. His framing divides the two assets: Ethereum is the aggressive asset, Bitcoin the foundational one.
Nvidia and the Nasdaq 100
After cutting Ethereum exposure, Sun said he increased his allocation to U.S. equities. Nvidia is his largest single stock holding, which he has not reduced, owing to the chipmaker's prominence in AI, according to CryptoBriefing's summary of the interview. He also holds a substantial allocation to the Nasdaq 100, the index tracking 100 of the largest non-financial companies on the Nasdaq exchange, and has no exposure to A-shares, the yuan-denominated stocks listed in mainland China. Despite the size of his Nasdaq 100 position, Sun described his outlook on it as slightly bearish over the medium term, citing capital concentration in a small number of mega-cap companies and high interest rates. He holds no short positions. He said he is optimistic about AI applications and Web3, but cautious about traditional hardware sectors.

Gox collapse, after Karpeles argued that clearer warnings in March could have prevented more than $90 million in user losses tied to tampered devices.

Qubic Loses $1.3M as 1,404 Wallets Drained in Seed-Randomness Attack, Network Halted

About 87.1% of the stolen tokens remain immobilized on the paused network, while MEXC froze the 12.9% that reached the exchange.
