JPMorgan Projects Bitcoin Will Outperform Stocks and Gold Over the Next Decade
Published October 20, 2026, 04:30 PM PKT. Based on J.P. Morgan Asset Management's 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions report, released October 19, 2026 (primary source), as described by CoinDesk on October 20, 2026 (secondary source), with reporting from Crypto Briefing, CryptoNews, Coinpedia, Hokanews and CoinLab on October 20, 2026 (secondary sources). MABOnChain has not previously covered JPMorgan's long-term bitcoin return forecast.
J.P. Morgan Asset Management has included Bitcoin in its long-term return forecasts for the first time in the 31-year history of its annual Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions report, projecting the asset will deliver a 10% compound annual return over the next 10 to 15 years, ahead of U.S. stocks, bonds, real estate and gold. The report, the 31st annual edition released on October 19, 2026, covers more than 200 asset classes and serves as a reference document for advisers and pension funds building strategic allocations, CoinDesk reported.
The forecast puts Bitcoin above U.S. large-cap stocks at 7.5%, U.S. small caps at 7.7%, U.S. bonds at 5.6% to 6.6%, U.S. real estate investment trusts at 8.2% and gold at 5.5%, according to figures circulated by Wu Blockchain and reported by multiple outlets. The classic 60/40 portfolio is projected at 7.0% a year. Bitcoin is the only digital asset in the document; no other tokens appear in the assumptions, Crypto Briefing reported.
The first bitcoin entry in 31 editions
Bitcoin's appearance in the LTCMA marks a notable turn for the world's largest asset manager, whose chief executive Jamie Dimon called bitcoin a "fraud" in 2017 and has reiterated his skepticism in softer terms since, CoinDesk noted. The forecast comes from J.P. Morgan Asset Management, the bank's investment arm, rather than from Dimon himself. Bitwise chief investment officer Matt Hougan described the moment as a shift in how institutions view bitcoin, saying the asset has moved from something big firms opposed to something they now build into formal forecasts, Crypto Briefing reported.
Hougan's characterization of bitcoin as the top-performing asset is his reading of the figures, CryptoNews cautioned; JPMorgan's published assumptions are modeled estimates for strategic planning over a decade or more, not a short-term market call.
The 10 percent number: compound versus arithmetic
The headline 10% figure is the compound annual return, what an investor actually ends up with after holding through the ups and downs, Crypto Briefing explained. The report also estimates an arithmetic annual return of 20.9%, the simple average of each year's gain or loss, and annualized volatility of 55%, compared with roughly 18% for large-cap stocks and 17.2% for gold. The gap between 20.9% and 10% reflects drawdowns: at that volatility, compound returns fall well below the arithmetic average, CoinLab noted.
A bear case of negative 9.7 percent, a bull case of 17 percent
JPMorgan's first range of long-term bitcoin forecasts spans from a 9.7% annual loss in its bear case to a 17% annual gain in its bull case, CoinDesk reported. The bank remains cautious about the asset: the report describes bitcoin's "volatility and unstable correlation to other asset classes" as an obstacle to its widespread inclusion in portfolios, and it does not make a case for bitcoin as a portfolio diversifier, instead viewing it as a "speculative asset and a hedge against monetary easing," according to comments by portfolio manager Dr Sheena Shah and head of digital asset strategy Dennis Cristallo.
The report adds that bitcoin "lacks a strategic role in portfolios other than as a bet on fiat currency expansion or future asset trading on blockchains," CoinDesk reported. Bitcoin is included in the return projections but left out of the report's sample portfolio allocations, Crypto Briefing noted, meaning the firm is willing to say what it thinks bitcoin might earn but is not yet willing to tell clients how much of it to own.
A decade horizon, not a trading call
The 10 to 15 year estimate says nothing about the coming weeks. Bitcoin traded near $81,522 on October 20, per CoinDesk market data, and the Federal Reserve's October 27-28 meeting looms as the nearer-term event for risk assets. What matters to institutions, CoinLab wrote, is the placement: bitcoin now sits in the assumptions table of one of the world's largest asset managers, which advisers and pension funds use as a reference.

The Hyperliquid Policy Center submitted a comment letter to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on October 19, 2026, one day before the public comment deadline, urging five changes to the proposed Regulation Crypto Assets framework: clearer rules for airdrops without payment, secondary market trading, safe harbors, token buybacks and federal preemption. The SEC proposed the framework on August 18, 2026, with a startup exemption of up to $5 million over four years and a fundraising exemption of up to $75 million per 12 months, and drew about 140 comments over a 60-day period.
BlackRock Files for iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF, Capped Upside on IBIT With Downside Buffer
BlackRock's iShares Trust filed with the SEC on October 19, 2026 for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF, ticker PBIT, seeking upside exposure to the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) up to an approximate cap while offering downside protection. The strategy buys bitcoin options in three tranches, sells options to offset the purchase cost, and invests in fixed-income products whose interest income hedges the option costs. IBIT holds more than $65 billion in assets, making it the largest bitcoin ETF. Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart noted it is BlackRock's third bitcoin ETF filing and that the firm still offers only bitcoin and Ethereum products.
Tether CEO Ardoino Fires Back at Blumenthal Senate Probe, Claims Iran USDT Volumes Down 94%
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino responded on October 19, 2026 to Senator Richard Blumenthal's Senate Iran sanctions probe, claiming on X that since 2023 Tether froze flagged addresses on average four weeks before OFAC and Israel's NBCTF officially designated them, that it acted before Chainalysis labeled the addresses 99% of the time, and that its enforcement work drove a 94% decline in Iran-linked stablecoin volumes. The figures are company assertions with no independently verified dataset. The September 28 report from Democratic staff of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations had accused USDT of being a significant financial lifeline for Iran's shadow banking network.
World Liberty's USD1 Stablecoin Sheds $400 Million in Two Weeks as Redemptions Mount
World Liberty Financial's USD1 stablecoin has shed more than $400 million of its market capitalization in two weeks, falling about 9.1% from $4.43 billion on October 6 to roughly $4.02 billion on October 19, driven by concentrated redemptions on Ethereum and BNB Chain, including nearly $200 million from a single unidentified address on BNB Chain. The dollar peg held between $0.998 and $1.000, proof-of-reserves data showed about $4.01 billion in backing assets, and the 11.45% supply drop outpaced rival dollar-pegged stablecoins ahead of a planned issuer transition.

Crypto.com and Novig Sue Missouri to Block Sports Prediction Market Crackdown
Crypto.com's North American Derivatives Exchange and Novig sued Missouri officials in federal court on October 16, 2026, arguing that federal commodities law gives the CFTC exclusive jurisdiction over their sports event contracts and preempts the state's bid to regulate them as unlicensed gambling. The suits follow cease-and-desist letters Attorney General Catherine Hanaway sent in September to six prediction market operators, with a 30-day compliance window.
Justin Sun Sold 80% to 90% of His Ethereum Near $4,000 and Pivoted to Nvidia
TRON founder Justin Sun disclosed in an interview published October 16, 2026 that he sold 80% to 90% of his Ethereum, mostly between $3,600 and $4,000, and moved much of the proceeds into U.S. equities, with Nvidia his largest single stock holding. Before the reduction, Ethereum had been his largest cryptocurrency position. He now keeps about 20% of his original ETH as a core asset, says he has no plans to buy back, and left his core Bitcoin untouched in cold storage over concerns about quantum computing and AI threats to cryptography. The sale itself happened months ago, not this week.
