Irys (IRYS) Surges More Than 350% to a New All-Time High as Trading Volume Tops $1.2 Billion

By MABOnChain Desk · Published · Updated · 4 min read

Editorial digital-art illustration in the CoinTelegraph style: a glowing programmable datachain network of luminous data blocks and streaming information flowing into a steep rising price chart that shoots upward through a night city skyline, traders in silhouette watching a giant green candlestick chart, golden and teal light trails, dark navy night palette with gold and teal highlights, cinematic painterly lighting, dramatic 16:9 composition, no text, no logos, no identifiable person.

Published October 23, 2026, 09:58 PM PKT. Based on CoinGecko market data, snapshot October 23, 2026, 16:54 UTC (primary source), and reporting by KuCoin and Cointime on October 22, 2026, CoinCodex exchange data, JustScreener derivatives data, the BTCC tokenomics summary, and the Daily Crypto Intelligence Report on October 23, 2026 (secondary sources).

Irys (IRYS) ripped to a new all-time high on October 23, 2026, topping CoinGecko's trending list as the token surged more than 350% in 24 hours to about $0.097, according to CoinGecko data captured at 16:54 UTC. The session high reached about $0.103 at 16:39 UTC, CoinGecko's data showed, a record for a token that had traded as low as $0.0117 on October 18, 2026. Twenty-four hour trading volume topped $1.27 billion, more than six times the token's roughly $192 million market value, and the seven day gain stood near 649%, with the 30 day gain near 529%. The move landed on an otherwise flat day for large assets: Bitcoin held near $81,763 and the Coinbase 50 Index slipped about 0.28% over 24 hours, according to the Daily Crypto Intelligence Report, which also listed Irys as the day's top mover on Coinbase at about 124% on that venue's earlier snapshot, a reminder that the rally accelerated hard into the afternoon UTC session.

The move in numbers: from 2 cents to nearly 10 cents in two days

CoinGecko's two day chart shows a slow build followed by a vertical break. IRYS traded near $0.0197 on October 21 at 17:00 UTC and near $0.0215 late on October 22, then $0.0264 by 05:00 UTC on October 23, $0.0407 by 11:00 UTC, and $0.098 by 16:51 UTC, according to CoinGecko market chart data. In other words, most of the damage was done in a single session, with the token roughly quadrupling from its October 22 close area. The volume tells the same story as the price: $1.27 billion changed hands in 24 hours, against a market value of about $192 million, a turnover ratio that puts Irys among the most heavily traded tokens in the market on the day. For context, the token's fully diluted valuation, which prices all 10 billion IRYS at the current price, stood near $971 million, according to CoinGecko, so the market is still valuing the project at roughly five times its circulating market value, a gap that matters because most of the supply is still locked.

Korean trading was already heavy before the spike

The clearest flow signal came from South Korea, and it predates the spike itself. On October 22, Upbit's 24-hour trading volume reached about $1.252 billion, up about 23.4% from the prior day, and IRYS/KRW was the exchange's second largest pair at about $112 million, or 8.98% of Upbit's total volume, according to CoinGecko data reported by KuCoin and Cointime on October 22. CoinCodex exchange data captured during the October 23 session put the Upbit IRYS/KRW pair higher still, near $247 million in 24-hour volume, about 19% of tracked spot volume, with Binance's IRYS perpetual contract the single largest venue at about $853 million. One point of precision matters here: Upbit first added IRYS trading in May 2026, when CoinStats reported the KRW, BTC and USDT pairs going live on May 15, so the October 23 move is not a fresh listing event. It is a surge riding liquidity that already existed, with Korean spot flow plus derivatives flow doing the pushing, not a new venue announcement.

Derivatives traders piled on as shorts paid up

Perpetual futures amplified the move. JustScreener's derivatives snapshot put IRYS perpetual open interest near $173.9 million, with an average funding rate of about negative 0.0632% across seven exchanges, meaning short positions were paying longs even as the price ripped higher, a setup that typically forces losing shorts to buy back and feeds the rally further. A Gate community post captured earlier in the session described the same structure at lower prices, with IRYS doubling from about $0.018 to about $0.044 on roughly $470 million in volume, perpetual volume near $470 million, open interest up about 40% in 24 hours and short liquidations clearing out, alongside a 14 day relative strength reading above 90, deep in overbought territory. The snapshots differ because they were taken hours apart in a fast market, but they agree on the mechanism: leveraged traders chased the breakout, shorts paid for the privilege, and each leg higher forced more buying. That is also why the move is fragile: the same leverage that accelerates a rally accelerates the reversal when funding, open interest or spot volume turns.

What Irys actually is, and the supply overhang

Irys is a layer 1 blockchain that calls itself a programmable datachain, unifying onchain data storage and smart contract execution in a single network, according to CoinGecko's project description. Traditional smart contract chains handle financial transactions but lack native tools for working with data at scale, while traditional datachains store data without smart contract integration, and Irys aims to serve both, with an Ethereum compatible execution layer called IrysVM that lets contracts read, transform and execute instructions embedded in stored data. The project launched its mainnet in November 2025 after more than two years of development, according to its launch announcement, and raised $20 million in total, including a $10 million Series A round led by CoinFund, with founder Josh Benaron previously building Bundlr, a data layer on Arweave. The supply picture tempers the rally: only about 2 billion of the 10 billion total IRYS circulate, according to CoinGecko, and BTCC's tokenomics summary puts investors at 25.3% and the core team and advisers at 18.8%, both subject to a one year cliff followed by three years of linear vesting. In plain terms, the float that is trading today is a fifth of the eventual supply, which is why a $1.27 billion volume day can move the price so violently, and why future unlocks remain the structural risk to any holder counting on the current price holding.

The risk in chasing a parabolic move

Nothing in the reporting window gives the rally a fresh fundamental anchor. MABOnChain found no new Irys protocol announcement in the last 48 hours that explains the timing, and the project's own launch milestones date to November 2025, not this week. What the record does show is a momentum trade: a trending rank, a record high, record volume, heavy Korean spot flow and a derivatives squeeze, all arriving on a day when the biggest assets barely moved. Parabolic moves of this shape have a familiar ending when volume fades, with early buyers taking profit into the same thin float that pushed the price up. The levels to watch are straightforward: holding above the mid $0.06 area keeps the breakout intact, while a slide back under $0.05 would mark the session as a fast rotation rather than a trend change, a framework CoinStats applied to the token's earlier May listing reaction as well. Traders who bought the breakout are betting the volume stays; traders who faded it are betting the float and the overbought readings win. Both sides will get their answer in the next few sessions, and neither side should mistake a one day volume record for a verdict on the project.

SEC Adds Tokenization to Its 2027 Exam Priorities, Flags Superintelligence and AI Risks

October 23, 2026 · 4 min read

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said on October 23, 2026 that its fiscal 2027 examination priorities include risks from asset tokenization and advanced technologies such as superintelligence, alongside adviser fiduciary duties, private funds and private credit, broker-dealer controls and cybersecurity. The priorities cover more than 34,000 registered entities, and the agency stressed that the list is staff guidance on exam focus, not a new rule. The shift comes a year after the agency de-emphasized scrutiny of the cryptocurrency sector, according to Reuters.

October 23, 2026 · 4 min read

Solana Alpenglow Goes Live on Mainnet in Biggest Consensus Switch Since Launch

October 21, 2026 · 4 min read

Solana has activated Alpenglow, its first major consensus upgrade, on mainnet on October 21, 2026, replacing the TowerBFT voting system it has used since launch with a new protocol called Votor that targets transaction finality in about 150 milliseconds, down from roughly 12.8 seconds. CryptoBreaking, citing the Solana Foundation Alpenglow dashboard, put activation at about 1:54 pm UTC, in epoch 1064, while the dashboard reading at press time showed finality of about 6.6 seconds and throughput of about 4,721 transactions per second, a reminder that the 150 millisecond figure is a target to converge toward, not an instant day one measurement. The second Alpenglow phase, Rotor, which would replace the Turbine block propagation system, does not activate with Votor and remains unscheduled.

OCC Finalizes First GENIUS Act Stablecoin Rule, Sets January 18, 2027 Start Date

October 21, 2026 · 5 min read

The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has issued the first final rule implementing the GENIUS Act, setting reserve, redemption and capital standards for payment stablecoin issuers under its jurisdiction, effective January 18, 2027. Issuers must hold reserves at least equal to their outstanding stablecoins and generally redeem within two business days, while the agency dropped a proposed presumption that affiliate rewards deals violate the law's yield ban, leaving existing rewards programs to case-by-case review. The rule covers national banks, federal savings associations, federal branches and nonbank firms seeking federal qualified issuer status, with a $5 million capital floor, while anti-money-laundering rules will follow in separate rulemaking with the Treasury.

Aave Backs Tokenized SpaceX Shares as Collateral With Strict Guardrails Ahead of 2.43 Billion Share Unlock

October 21, 2026 · 5 min read

Aave risk adviser LlamaRisk has backed listing tokenized SpaceX shares, trading as SPCXc, as collateral on Aave V4's Equities Hub on Base, but only under the hub's toughest terms: a 55% collateral factor, a 6.5% maximum liquidation bonus, a 1,000 basis point risk premium and a 37,000 token supply cap worth about $5.8 million. The caution reflects SpaceX's four months of public trading history and a lock-up calendar that releases 2.43 billion shares, 84% of the current float, between October 26 and December 8, 2026. SPCXc would be collateral-only, with USDC the only borrowable asset, and larger liquidations would depend on redemptions or derivatives hedges because onchain depth is thin.
