Aave Backs Tokenized SpaceX Shares as Collateral With Strict Guardrails Ahead of 2.43 Billion Share Unlock

By MABOnChain Desk · Published · Updated · 5 min read

Editorial digital-art illustration in the CoinTelegraph style: a giant stylized rocket company share certificate transformed into a glowing token being placed as collateral into a large decentralized lending vault on a blockchain base layer, a cautious risk gauge dial and a vault door, a looming calendar of share unlocks and a storm cloud of falling share prices in the background, small silhouetted traders and risk analysts in the foreground, deep navy night palette with gold and teal highlights, cinematic painterly lighting, dramatic 16:9 composition, no text.

Published October 21, 2026, 5:45 PM PKT. Based on LlamaRisk's risk review published on the Aave governance forum on October 21, 2026 (primary source), with reporting from Crypto Briefing and The Defiant on October 21, 2026 (secondary sources).

LlamaRisk, the risk advisory firm that reviews listings for Aave, has backed adding tokenized SpaceX Class A common stock, trading as SPCXc, as collateral on Aave V4's Equities Hub on Base, but only under the strictest terms on the hub. The proposal, put forward by Aave Labs on October 15, 2026, would let holders of tokenized SpaceX shares borrow USDC against them without selling. LlamaRisk's review, published on the Aave governance forum on October 21, 2026, supports the listing while warning that SpaceX has only four months of public trading history and a lock-up calendar that releases 2.43 billion shares between October 26 and December 8, 2026, which is why every dial in the proposal is set tighter than for the stocks already listed.

The 55% collateral factor, the hub's toughest

LlamaRisk recommends a collateral factor of 55% for SPCXc, ten points below META and TSLA, the most conservative names currently on the hub. The factor caps borrowing against deposited collateral, so every $100 of SPCXc would support at most $55 of USDC debt. The number is sized to absorb the fall the collateral could suffer between the moment a position becomes liquidatable and the moment a liquidator can act, and LlamaRisk puts that once in ten year off-hours fall at 41.0%. SpaceX's worst off-hours fall so far, 16.4% on the night of its second quarter earnings release, sits well inside that estimate, but the firm stresses that four months of trading is too short to contain a once in ten year night, so the estimate is built from the stock's volatility and tested against 184 US IPOs listed between 2018 and 2025. The stock's volatility since listing, 81% annualized, is well above that of any name currently on the hub, and it fell 46% from peak to trough within its first eight weeks of trading, according to the review.

The same review puts SpaceX's valuation in terms that explain the caution. SpaceX is a $2.33 trillion company whose valuation rests mostly on businesses that do not yet earn a profit, LlamaRisk writes. Starlink generates $8.65 billion of annual segment EBITDA, which supports about 4% to 15% of the enterprise value depending on the multiple applied, while the group as a whole lost $8.2 billion and burned $32 billion of free cash flow over the twelve months to June 2026 as it builds AI compute. The stock trades at 99 times trailing revenue, according to the review.

The 2.43 billion share unlock calendar

Only 21% of SpaceX shares are tradable today, according to LlamaRisk, and the 180-day lock-up releases another 2.43 billion shares, 84% of the current float, between October 26 and December 8, 2026. The largest single tranche, about 1.3 billion shares, arrives two trading days after the third quarter earnings release, which LlamaRisk expects between November 3 and 5, 2026. Secondary coverage of the proposal has valued that tranche at roughly $194 billion. After the December 8 release of 797.6 million shares, and the start of demand registration rights around December 11, underwritten block sales become possible, according to the review. LlamaRisk says it will re-evaluate its parameters after each of those two dates, and then monthly while the listing history remains short.

The unlock calendar is the reason the proposal's other parameters are set where they are. If SPCXc drops sharply while loans are outstanding, liquidators need to sell collateral fast, and a flood of newly tradable shares is exactly the kind of event that can move the price before they can act. The review is explicit that the supply overhang comes from lock-ups on shares that are already issued and vested, while unvested equity is comparatively small, so the calendar is a known schedule of supply events, not a rumor about insider selling.

The liquidation problem: $370,000 of onchain depth

LlamaRisk recommends a maximum liquidation bonus of 6.5% for SPCXc, one point above the Magnificent Seven names on the hub. The bonus is the discount a liquidator earns for repaying an underwater loan and seizing its collateral, and it has to cover the gap between the oracle price and the market, the move in the stock before a hedge is in place, and the cost of the exit route. At 6.5%, the bonus covers redemption with the issuer during regular hours and a stressed perpetual hedge, as well as a sale on Base of up to about $310,000, the amount that moves the Aerodrome pool by 1.5% today. Larger liquidations, the review says, would go through redemption or a perpetual hedge instead of a sale on Base.

The numbers behind that warning are stark. SPCXc supply outstanding on Base is 13,214 tokens, worth about $2.07 million, and the Aerodrome pool's depth at a 2% price impact is $0.37 million, according to LlamaRisk. The recommended add cap of 37,000 SPCXc, worth about $5.8 million, is 2.8 times today's supply and about fifteen times that pool depth. The stock itself is highly liquid, with $14 billion to $16 billion of daily volume and $625 million of perpetual open interest across the four venues used for the hub's caps, and SPCXc is priced by a Chainlink feed that follows 24/5 US equities market hours. But the onchain market for the token is a different matter, and the review's central caveat is that onchain liquidity alone may not be deep enough to absorb a big forced sale without help from offchain mechanics.

What borrowers actually pay: the 1,000 basis point premium

LlamaRisk assigns SPCXc a collateral risk premium of 1,000 basis points, while the Magnificent Seven remain at zero. The premium is added for two reasons, according to the review: it compensates suppliers for the uncertainty that the collateral factor cannot remove, and it encourages diversification, because Aave V4 assigns the lowest-risk collateral to a borrower's debt first, so only the part of a loan that actually relies on SPCXc pays it. At the current USDC drawn rate of 1.85%, debt backed by SPCXc pays 2.03%, rising to 4.40% at the 90% optimal usage ratio and 26.4% at the top of the curve. The premium starts small and can be raised through the risk steward process if SPCXc comes to back a large share of the hub's debt, the review says.

SPCXc would also be collateral-only, not borrowable, and USDC would be the only asset users could borrow against it. The Equities Hub itself went live on September 25, 2026, and already hosts tokenized shares of the Magnificent Seven, issued through Coinbase's B20 standard with its Token Supply Manager and Oracle Registry. LlamaRisk's legal review found the SpaceX certificates identical to the NVIDIA certificates examined for the existing collateral, apart from the series details and the qualification of the underlying as Class A shares, but the firm still evaluated SPCXc separately because SpaceX's fundamentals and the recency of its IPO set it apart.

What happens next: earnings, then the December release

The proposal now goes through Aave governance as a direct-to-AIP asset listing, and the dates to watch are the ones LlamaRisk flagged for re-evaluation: the third quarter earnings release expected between November 3 and 5, 2026, and the tranche of about 1.3 billion shares two trading days later, then the December 8 release of 797.6 million shares and the start of demand registration rights around December 11. If governance approves the listing, the next questions are practical ones: whether SPCXc supply on Base grows toward the 37,000 token cap, whether the unlock tranches move the stock enough to test the 41% haircut assumption built into the 55% factor, and whether a real liquidation ever has to rely on redemption or a hedge rather than an onchain sale. The proposal is a test case for whether decentralized lending can safely absorb a volatile, newly listed equity token through a known supply shock, and the risk adviser's answer is yes, but only with the hub's tightest settings and a review calendar tied to the unlock itself.

The UK High Court has granted about 16,000 Chinese fraud victims permission to appeal its October 12, 2026 ruling that Chinese law governs property claims over more than 61,000 Bitcoin seized in the Qian Zhimin money laundering case, according to PANews reporting on October 21 that cited Caixin. The appeal keeps alive the victims' bid to claim a share of a stash worth about 3.8 billion pounds, after the original ruling said their claims must be tested under Chinese law rather than English property law. Lawyers at the follow-up hearing also discussed litigation costs from the earlier dispute and how individual applicants can continue or withdraw their claims.

October 21, 2026 · 4 min read

Zcash jumped about 10% on October 21, 2026, trading near $1,260, after developers set the mainnet activation height for NU7, the network upgrade that cuts Zcash block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. The activation height is the block number at which every node switches to the new rules, and NU7 pairs the threefold speedup with a Network Sustainability Mechanism that routes 60% of each block's transaction fees into a reserve paid back out over time. ZEC has gained roughly 45% in the past week and about 138% over 30 days, pushing its market capitalization back above $20 billion for the first time since 2016.
