SEI Lands US-Regulated Perpetual Futures on OG.com Markets, Joining BTC, ETH and SOL

By MABOnChain Desk · Published · Updated · 4 min read

Editorial digital-art illustration in the CoinTelegraph style: a neoclassical American financial building morphing into a futuristic perpetual-futures trading floor, a giant golden $SEI coin hovering over green candlestick charts, a glowing blue certification seal with a checkmark, holographic order-book walls, USD bills and calendar pages dissolving into digital particles, margin dials and 24/7 clocks, deep navy and purple tones with electric green and gold accents, dramatic cinematic lighting, 16:9 wide composition.

Published October 17, 2026, 12:00 PKT. Based on Sei Network's October 16, 2026 announcement post on X (primary source), TokenPost's October 16, 2026 report on the filing (primary filing details), and secondary reporting by The Crypto Times, Crypto-Economy, ChainCatcher, cryptonews.net and TronWeekly.

Sei Network said on October 16 that perpetual futures on its native token, SEI, had been certified by a U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission-regulated exchange. In a post on X, the network said SEI joins Bitcoin, Ether, Solana and XRP among assets with perpetual futures on CFTC-regulated venues, calling the product another regulated way to access SEI. The contract is cash-settled in U.S. dollars, trades 24 hours a day, and has no expiration date, according to the filing terms.

The October 8 filing under Regulation 40.2

The contract was filed by North American Derivatives Exchange Inc., which operates under the commercial name OG.com Markets, under CFTC Regulation 40.2(a) on October 8, 2026, and carries Certified status in the CFTC product register, TokenPost reported. The filing said the exchange intended to list the contract on or after October 12. Under this route, the exchange submits a product certification instead of receiving an approval order after the agency reviews the contract, TokenPost noted. That distinction matters: Kalshi's Bitcoin perpetual futures contract, approved on May 29, 2026 under Regulation 40.3 after a CFTC review, went through the agency-approval path, while the SEI contract went through exchange self-certification, according to the same report.

Cash-settled USD, eight-hour funding, and $13.17 of day-one trades

Each contract represents one SEI, with a minimum trading unit of 100 contracts, and the contract tracks the CF Sei-Dollar Spot Rate administered by CF Benchmarks, ChainCatcher reported. Funding payments between long and short holders are calculated every eight hours, capped at 2% per interval, to keep the futures price aligned with the spot index: long holders pay shorts when the contract trades above the reference rate, and shorts pay longs when it trades below, TokenPost reported. Traders must post risk-based initial margin, and a separate exchange notification sets an initial margin range of 15% to 30% across its crypto-perpetual lineup, ChainCatcher reported. The contract settles twice daily, at noon and 5 p.m. ET, according to the filing documents.

Trading has begun, but volume is minimal so far. On October 16, two trades of 100 contracts each were recorded at about $0.06585 and $0.06580 per SEI, worth a combined notional of about $13.17, TokenPost reported. One day of two transactions does not establish sustained volume, open interest or broad demand.

SEI joins a short list

Certified status puts SEI alongside BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP as assets with perpetual futures on CFTC-regulated U.S. venues, per Sei's announcement. cryptonews.net reported that the exchange's launch notice groups SEI with BTC, ETH, SOL, HYPE and ZEC, and noted that Kraken launched U.S.-regulated perpetuals through Bitnomial in June 2026, listing nine assets including BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP on an eight-hour funding cycle. On the exchange-traded fund side, three SEI products from REX-Osprey, Canary Capital and 21Shares remain in the SEC process, CryptoCompass reported: REX Shares and Osprey Funds set October 23 as the target effective date for their proposed staked-SEI fund after filing a post-effective amendment on September 24, while Canary Capital filed its own SEI application in April 2025.

Price action and what comes next

Market data on October 16 showed SEI trading near $0.066, up about 12% over 24 hours, with a market capitalization of about $450.7 million and daily trading volume near $63.5 million, TronWeekly reported. The outlet cautioned that the certification alone does not establish that it caused the rebound, and that a stronger assessment needs sustained spot volume alongside futures open interest and funding-rate data after the contract begins trading. The daily gain should not be treated as evidence of lasting demand or a confirmed trend change.
