Pirate Chain Rolls Back Its Blockchain After Exploit in Ironwood Turnstile Supply Accounting

By MABOnChain Desk · Published · Updated · 4 min read

Editorial digital-art illustration in the CoinTelegraph style: a cracked glowing privacy-coin emblem behind a broken glass shield, a turnstile machine glowing with warning light spewing false ledger entries, blockchain blocks splitting apart as one fork rewinds backward like a clock, dark alert lighting, deep navy and charcoal tones with red and gold neon highlights, dramatic comic-book shading, 16:9 wide composition.

Published October 15, 2026, 15:10 UTC. Based on Pirate Chain's announcement on X, and reporting by CryptoTimes.fun and CryptoPulseDaily.

Pirate Chain (ARRR) announced on October 15, 2026 that developers had identified an exploit in the new transparent layer tied to the Ironwood turnstile for supply accounting, and that the network will be rolled back to October 14, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time, which is 20:00 UTC. Every block produced after that point will be undone. The announcement was posted on X at about 02:20 UTC.

Exchanges told to freeze ARRR deposits and withdrawals

All exchanges were notified and asked to temporarily suspend deposits and withdrawals of ARRR, the announcement said, and users were advised to avoid sending or receiving funds and to stop all wallet activity until further notice. MEXC has suspended ARRR deposits and withdrawals at the project team's request, according to the exchange's maintenance notices reported by CryptoTimes.fun. Developers are working on a fix, the team said, and more details will follow once the rollback and investigation are complete.

The Ironwood turnstile and supply accounting

The turnstile is the component that validates supply as it enters Pirate Chain's shielded pool, and the flaw sits in its new transparent accounting layer, according to CryptoTimes.fun. The vulnerability appears to have compromised the accuracy of those accounting records, which forced the drastic step of discarding the last stretch of blocks, CryptoPulseDaily reported. The rollback lands roughly 12 days after the network activated the Ironwood upgrade, according to Crypto Times.

Ironwood is Zcash's newest shielded pool, built on the Halo2 proving system with no trusted setup and backed by machine-checked formal verification of its circuit design, according to Pirate Chain's announcement in July 2026. Pirate Chain adopted it directly, bypassing an entire generation of privacy technology, and the formal verification was specifically pitched as proof against unknown counterfeiting bugs. The exploited accounting layer sits adjacent to that verified core.

Rollback to October 14, 1:00 PM Pacific

Rolling a chain back is a last resort: every transaction recorded after October 14 at 1:00 PM Pacific (20:00 UTC) is erased from history, including deposits, withdrawals and shielded transfers made in the window. Exchange suspensions mean any ARRR sitting on trading platforms is frozen in place until the team releases the fix. Users were told to keep wallets untouched, since transacting during the rollback could produce funds that vanish when the older chain state is restored.

The incident caps a rough stretch for the privacy coin sector's credibility on formal verification claims, and it follows a quarter that Hacken measured as the worst for crypto security since early 2025, with $1.18 billion lost across 107 incidents. Pirate Chain has not yet said how the attacker used the turnstile flaw or whether any funds were created improperly.

Standard Chartered Pushes Back $2 Trillion Stablecoin Forecast to 2030 as Supply Stalls at $309 Billion

October 15, 2026 · 5 min read

Standard Chartered's Geoffrey Kendrick said on October 14, 2026 that the stablecoin market will reach $2 trillion in 2030, two years later than his original 2028 forecast, because stablecoin supply has stalled near $309 billion for a year. He called the slowdown cyclical, not structural, and pointed to soaring usage: monthly transfer value hit a record $19 trillion in May.
