Canton Strategic Completes First Tokenized U.S. Stock Trade Under SEC Innovation Exemption

Editorial digital-art illustration in the CoinTelegraph style: a grand neoclassical stock exchange hall merged with a glowing blockchain network, a giant golden stock certificate transforming into luminous digital tokens flowing along a chain of blocks, a courthouse-style pediment and ticker ribbon above, verified investor figures in silhouette exchanging glowing share tokens, dramatic comic-book ink shading, halftone dots, deep navy and charcoal tones with gold and teal neon highlights, 16:9 wide composition.

Canton Strategic Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNTN) has completed the first trades of its issuer-sponsored tokenized common stock under the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Innovation Exemption, the company announced on November 4, 2026. The trades were executed on November 4 on TSV LLC, the permissioned venue for tokenized stocks on the Canton Network, through a permissioned pool on Tradecraft, the automated market maker protocol that powers the venue. Existing shareholder Five North sold tokenized shares to DRW Cumberland, with Flowdesk Liquidity Solutions providing liquidity and Fairmint TA LLC, an SEC-registered transfer agent, recording the shares in token form. The company describes the trades as the first of their kind under the SEC's September 17 Innovation Exemption, and the first transactions in issuer-sponsored tokenized national market system stock with an onchain transfer agent under the framework. This site previously reported the October 29 agreement that set the listing up, so the November 4 trades are the execution of that plan, not a new announcement.

The first trade: 14,461 shares, about $30,296

The company announcement does not disclose the size of the first trades, but CryptoBriefing put the first trade at about 14,461 shares changing hands for roughly $30,296, or about $2.08 per share. That is a small, deliberately controlled first print, not a market opening: TSV is a permissioned venue with volume limits, and the first trades were between verified counterparties rather than an open order book. The sequence began with Five North, an existing shareholder, asking for its shares to be registered in tokenized form. Fairmint, acting for the company, recorded the issuer-sponsored tokenized shares directly into Five North's verified Loop Wallet, moving the position from a broker-dealer account onto the company's onchain shareholder register. A pool operated by TSV was then established among liquidity providers, including Flowdesk and DRW Cumberland, where Flowdesk provided liquidity and DRW Cumberland executed the first purchases of tokenized CNTN common stock, according to the announcement.

How the trade worked: verified wallets, atomic settlement

Every step of the trade ran inside a permissioned system, which is the core of the SEC framework. Only holders whose identity and wallets have been verified and approved by Fairmint can hold and trade the tokenized shares, with identity verification and sanctions screening required before a holder account is granted, and smart contracts enforce the transfer controls on every transfer, according to the announcement. Settlement was atomic on the Canton Network, meaning shares and payment transferred together in a single delivery versus payment transaction, or neither side moved. TSV says the venue is designed to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to regulatorily required trading stoppages, maintenance, risk controls, and trading volume limits. Canton Strategic chairman and CEO Mark Wendland said shareholders on TSV keep the same rights they have on Nasdaq, and argued that the Canton Network's privacy protects them from the MEV frontrunning and information leakage common on other public chains. Fairmint CEO Joris Delanoue called the trade a landmark for U.S. equity markets, saying a blockchain can settle a trade but it takes an accountable transfer agent to say who legally owns the share.

The issuer-sponsored shortcut: no 30-day objection window

The reason this trade happened first is sponsorship. TSV was the first venue to formally notify the SEC of its intent to operate a tokenized securities venue, publishing its initial venue notice on September 23, 2026, under the Innovation Exemption set out in SEC Release No. 34-106402, which runs for five years and expires on September 17, 2031. Because Canton Strategic sponsored the tokenization of its own shares, the listing did not require the 30-day issuer notice and objection process that applies when an unaffiliated party tokenizes a company's stock. That distinction is visible in the parallel OKXICE effort, where unaffiliated tokenization has drawn objections from 59 companies, including Apple, Tesla, Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet and Nvidia, according to OKXICE's November 3 public notice. The issuer-sponsored route sidesteps that fight entirely, which is why a small-cap issuer that already backs the Canton Network ecosystem, and serves as a Super Validator on it, could reach the first trade while the larger unaffiliated venue is still counting objections.

What this first does and does not prove

Readers should keep the scope of the claim precise. This is the first issuer-sponsored tokenized U.S. stock trade under the SEC's Innovation Exemption, not the first tokenized stock anywhere: tokenized versions of U.S. shares already trade on offshore venues such as Kraken's xStocks and Backpack, outside the SEC framework. What is new is the combination: a Nasdaq-listed company's actual stock, tokenized with the issuer's sponsorship, traded onshore under an SEC framework, with an SEC-registered transfer agent keeping the official ownership record and every holder verified in advance. What is not yet proven is scale. The first trade was about $30,000, the venue carries volume caps, and no timetable has been given for wider participation, additional issuers, or the removal of those caps. The next checks are whether a second issuer follows the same sponsored route, whether TSV's volume limits loosen, and whether the SEC's five-year pilot, which runs to September 2031, draws any further venue notices beyond TSV's September 23 filing.

Binance Says 98% of Stolen Assets Replenished as Proof of Reserves Expands to 44 Tokens

November 5, 2026 · 4 min read

Binance says it has replenished about 98% of the assets affected by its October 29 security incident, up from 95% in its November 2 update, and has expanded its proof of reserves to cover 44 tokens, up from 10, according to Recovery Update #7 published November 4, 2026. The exchange says it has set aside more than 100% of the funds needed from its own resources and will bear the full losses itself, not its users. A new proof of reserves snapshot taken at 00:00 UTC on November 4 covers 44 tokens, but the full zero knowledge proof that lets users verify their own balances will take about 50 to 60 hours to generate, so self verification for the wider token set is still pending. The remaining 2% consists of less liquid tokens Binance is still buying through market and over the counter channels, with no completion date given.

Mercado Bitcoin to Reopen in Phases From November 9, Pledging to Cover Hack Losses

November 5, 2026 · 4 min read

Mercado Bitcoin, Brazil's largest crypto exchange, will begin restoring customer access in phases from Monday, November 9, 2026, a week after a November 2 security incident that drained tens of millions of dollars from its hot wallets and customer deposit addresses. The first phase opens the website for balance checks only, with transfers, withdrawals and trading to follow module by module after independent security verification, according to reports of the exchange's update. Mercado Bitcoin says it will cover the affected assets from its own funds so customers suffer no losses, and says more than $15 million in stolen assets has already been frozen with help from Tether, Circle, Paxos, BRL1 and Chainalysis. The final loss total is still unsettled: the company has cited about $36.3 million affected, while outside analysts have traced at least $46 million.

Nasdaq Approves Listing of Canary Staked INJ ETF Under Ticker INJC

November 5, 2026 · 4 min read

Nasdaq has approved the listing application for Canary Capital's staked Injective ($INJ) exchange traded fund, which will trade under the ticker INJC once its registration statement becomes effective, according to a Form 8-A12B filing reported November 4, 2026. The fund plans to stake at least 90% of its Injective ($INJ) holdings through third party providers, with BitGo as custodian, and charge a 1.10% annual sponsor fee. Trading cannot start until the Securities and Exchange Commission declares the fund's S-1 registration statement effective, so the listing approval is a step toward launch, not a launch date. Injective ($INJ) traded at $7.83, up 8.83% over 24 hours, in a November 4 snapshot taken at 8:15 PM UTC.
