Zcash Rebounds 6% as NU7 Upgrade Nears After November 3 Washout

Editorial digital-art illustration in the CoinTelegraph style: a giant glowing golden shield coin with a stylized Z emblem rising above a dark city skyline at night, green and gold candlestick chart bars climbing upward behind it, streams of glowing teal blockchain nodes and privacy shield motifs swirling across a deep navy sky, a fast-moving clock face motif suggesting faster blocks, cinematic painterly lighting, gold and teal highlights on a dark navy palette, dramatic 16:9 composition, no text, no logos, no identifiable person.

Published November 4, 2026, 09:56 AM PKT. Based on CoinGecko market data and Binance ZECUSDT data checked this run (primary sources), CoinStats market reports dated November 3 and November 4, 2026, and a CoinStats report of on-chain analyst Ember's findings via TechFlow dated November 3, 2026 (secondary sources). Prices move fast and the figures below are snapshots at time of writing.

Zcash (ZEC) rebounded on November 4, 2026, a day after a sharp sell-off, as traders positioned for the NU7 network upgrade expected around November 5. CoinGecko showed ZEC at $1,208.46 at about 04:52 UTC, up 6.24 percent in 24 hours, with a market capitalization of about $20.57 billion, ranked 10th, and 24-hour trading volume of about $960.9 million. Binance's ZECUSDT pair told the same story, trading at $1,211.22, up 6.45 percent in 24 hours, between a $1,120.03 low and a $1,245.13 high, on about $179.6 million of quote volume. The rebound follows a volatile week: ZEC is still down 9.57 percent over seven days and 11.55 percent over 30 days on CoinGecko, and sits 62.14 percent below its all-time high of $3,191.93, set on October 28, 2016. CoinGecko had ZEC ranked first among its trending coins this run, with the rebound, not a new listing or announcement, driving the attention.

A 6 percent rebound after an 11 percent washout

The bounce came off a brutal November 3 session. CoinStats reported that ZEC lost around 11 percent over 24 hours and traded at about $1,135 on the morning of November 3, after a 24-hour high of $1,278.55 and a low of $1,127.88, with the seven-day loss then a little more than 7 percent and the 30-day loss a little more than 13 percent. CoinStats' November 4 update put ZEC at $1,197.90, up 7.67 percent over 24 hours in its snapshot, and attributed the gain mainly to traders who had bet against the token being forced to buy back after the November 3 sell-off. Liquidations across Binance, Bybit and OKX totaled $4.73 million over the last 24 hours in that update, with short positions accounting for $3.10 million, or 65.6 percent, of the total, though the figure covers only those three exchanges and is not market-wide. A separate CoinMarketCap AI summary noted $13.7 million in forced ZEC liquidations in the 24 hours through November 2, with long positions accounting for $10.6 million of that total, a sign that both directions were caught out in the two-day swing. ZEC still trades below its 20-day simple moving average of $1,217.06 and its 50-day average of $1,316.64, according to CoinStats, so the rebound has not yet reclaimed the short-term trend.

The whale liquidation that marked the November 3 low

The most concrete trigger for the November 3 drop was a single large trader's forced exit, according to on-chain analyst Ember, whose findings were reported by TechFlow on November 3 and summarized by CoinStats. Ember said one address bought 25,002 ZEC over four days for 31.78 million USDT, an average of roughly $1,271 per token, while also holding a long position of 18,910 ZEC on the derivatives platform Hyperliquid, opened at $1,378. When ZEC fell below $1,200 overnight, stop-loss orders closed the entire leveraged position, and Ember put the realized loss at around $2.58 million, or about $5.84 million including the spot holding. A CoinMarketCap AI summary separately described a roughly $14 million Zcash position combining spot purchases and a 2x leveraged long on Hyperliquid, reported by U.Today, positioned ahead of NU7. The two descriptions are consistent with the same whale-sized bet, but the position size and loss figures come from different reports and should not be added together. Open interest in ZEC stood at $2.45 billion, down 4.58 percent over a two-day window, according to CoinStats, which fits a market that just flushed leverage in both directions.

NU7: 25-second blocks, and the November 5 target

The scheduled catalyst behind the positioning is Network Upgrade 7, or NU7. Market reports put activation at block 3,543,405, expected around November 5, with one report putting it in the early hours of November 6, and the exact time depends only on the pace of blocks, not on a calendar date. The headline change is speed: NU7 cuts the target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, tripling throughput, according to CoinStats and CoinMarketCap AI summaries. The upgrade also retires version 4 transactions, leaving about 22,309 ZEC in the legacy Sprout pool potentially unspendable, according to CoinStats, and introduces the Network Sustainability Mechanism. The 21 million ZEC supply cap and the four-year halving schedule are unchanged. One caution for readers: a market report on November 3 noted that the official Zcash NU7 page had not confirmed the activation height, so November 5 should be read as a reported target tied to block 3,543,405, not as a confirmed execution time. MABOnChain reported on October 21, 2026, when NU7 locked in mainnet activation, that the upgrade was the centerpiece of Zcash's speed push, and this article covers the price action into activation, not a repeat of that activation news. Analyst levels cited by CoinMarketCap AI put resistance near $1,370, with support in the $1,210 to $1,250 zone, and the September highs between $1,500 and $1,700 as the next area above that, but those are chart levels, not forecasts.

The $124 million grants dispute hanging over the upgrade

Running alongside the upgrade is an unresolved fight over who controls Zcash development funding. Cointelegraph reported on October 30 that the Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) pool holds around 91,500 ZEC, and CoinStats reported that ZCG proposed on October 29 and 30 to redirect about 98,000 ZEC, roughly $124 million, toward future block rewards. On November 2, ZODL founder Josh Swihart said he supports a compromise from co-founders Sean Bowe and Zooko Wilcox-O'Hearn to end ZCG's 8 percent block reward share, according to CoinStats. MABOnChain reported on October 29, 2026, that Bowe had moved to end the grants stream, valued then at about $125 million, so the dispute is not new, but it remains unsettled days before NU7 activates. Two quieter data points frame the same picture: about 29.24 percent of ZEC supply was shielded as of November 2, representing roughly 4.98 million ZEC, according to the ZecZcash shielded supply tracker cited by CoinStats, and Grayscale's ZCSH product recorded a net outflow of $3,632,352 on November 2, the latest settled day, according to the ZecZcash ETF tracker. Neither figure decides the upgrade's outcome, but together they show a network heading into its biggest technical change of the year with its funding model still in dispute. Democrats Projected to Win House Control in 2026 Midterms, Reshaping Crypto's Path in Congress

November 4, 2026 · 6 min read

Multiple major decision desks projected on election night that Democrats won control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, with NBC News projecting about 244 Democratic seats, CNBC projecting at least 225, and Decision Desk HQ projecting a Democratic majority, while the Associated Press had not called House control at time of writing and Senate control remained uncalled. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is in line to become speaker when the new Congress convenes on January 3, 2027, a shift that analysts say will likely delay crypto market-structure legislation further and bring stronger consumer protection, conflict-of-interest and DeFi disclosure terms, plus oversight probes of Trump-family crypto ventures including World Liberty Financial. The CLARITY Act already stalled in the Senate on September 15, 2026, when a procedural vote failed 49 to 50, short of the 60 needed, and the GENIUS Act stablecoin law is already law and takes full effect in January 2027.

Justin Sun Seeks Sanctions Against World Liberty Financial Over Delayed UAE Disclosure

November 3, 2026 · 5 min read

Tron founder Justin Sun asked a California federal judge to sanction Trump-linked World Liberty Financial and its lawyers, accusing the company of failing to disclose its United Arab Emirates citizenship until months into his lawsuit over frozen WLFI tokens tied to his $45 million investment. Sun's lawyers filed the sanctions motion on November 2, 2026, seek about $263,821 in legal fees, and say World Liberty first listed only Florida citizenship on June 2 before amending its disclosure on August 26 to name 22 entities with citizenship in Florida, Delaware, Puerto Rico and the UAE. World Liberty now argues the federal court lacks jurisdiction, Sun plans to refile in California state court once the motion is resolved, and a hearing is set for December 10, 2026, with World Liberty's response due November 16. The court has not determined that World Liberty intentionally concealed its ownership.

Binance Says $6.34 Billion Hack Began With a Fake Job Interview and a Compromised AI Tool

November 3, 2026 · 6 min read

Binance published its initial incident report on November 3, 2026, saying the $6.34 billion theft from its hot wallets on October 29 began with a tampered software download in June and a fake job interview in September, pivoted through a compromised internal AI tool on October 20, and reached its wallet signing service on October 29, where the attacker used Ethereum EIP-7702 authorizations to keep moving funds after withdrawals were suspended. Binance put the frozen or intercepted total at about $2.85 billion, said 98 percent of affected token assets had been replenished as of October 31, and said users will bear no losses, with an independent review now commissioned.

Lighter Whale Sends $12.2 Million in LIT to Exchanges After Unstaking as Token Holds Above $3

November 3, 2026 · 5 min read

An address beginning 0x14A sent 3.9 million Lighter (LIT) tokens, worth about $12.21 million, to OKX and other exchanges on November 2, 2026, two days after unstaking them, according to TokenPost citing on-chain analyst Yu Jin via BlockBeats. The transfer landed as LIT traded at $3.35 on CoinGecko on November 3, up 8.82 percent in 24 hours and 13.78 percent over seven days, with a market capitalization of about $838.5 million and 24-hour trading volume near $114.8 million. Lighter founder Vladimir Novakovski said on October 21 that the perpetual futures exchange plans to apply for U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission registrations in November, but no application has been filed yet, so the regulatory premium in the price still rests on a promise, not an approval. A transfer to exchanges does not confirm a sale, and the wallet owner has not been identified.
