Lighter Whale Sends $12.2 Million in LIT to Exchanges After Unstaking as Token Holds Above $3
Published November 3, 2026, 10:05 PM PKT. Based on TokenPost's November 2, 2026 report citing on-chain analyst Yu Jin via BlockBeats (primary source), CoinGecko market data as of November 3, 2026, 4:52 PM UTC (primary source), CoinStats' November 3, 2026 Lighter briefing (secondary source), Bitrue's November 2026 report on Lighter's CFTC license plan (secondary source), and AInvest's November 1, 2026 report on LIT's regulatory bet (secondary source). This is MABOnChain's second Lighter article, following the November 1 report on LIT's 15 percent gain; the new angle is the November 2 whale unstaking transfer, which the earlier article did not cover.
An address beginning 0x14A sent 3.9 million Lighter (LIT) tokens to OKX and other exchanges on November 2, 2026, two days after unstaking them, TokenPost reported, citing on-chain analyst Yu Jin via BlockBeats. The transfer was valued at about $12.21 million in the source snapshot. The report did not identify the wallet owner, and it did not state whether the transfer represented an intended sale, a custody change, or another strategy, according to a second report of the same transfer. That distinction matters: tokens arriving at exchanges can be sold, but they can also sit in custody, and the transfer alone does not establish the wallet's next move or a price outlook for LIT.
The $12.2 million transfer
The sequence, as reported, runs in two steps. The address unstaked and retrieved the tokens, then waited two days before sending them to centralized trading platforms on November 2, according to TokenPost. At the reported value of about $12.21 million, the 3.9 million LIT represented roughly 1.5 percent of LIT's roughly $838.5 million market capitalization at CoinGecko's November 3 snapshot, so the transfer is large enough to matter for near-term supply but far too small, on its own, to explain the token's price action. Notably, LIT rose rather than fell after the transfer window: CoinGecko put LIT at $3.35 on November 3, up 8.82 percent in 24 hours, with 24-hour trading volume near $114.8 million. A whale moving tokens to exchanges is normally read as potential sell pressure, but the market absorbed the headline and kept climbing, at least through the November 3 snapshot.
A token climbing into November
LIT's November run has been built on a regulatory promise rather than a filing. Founder and chief executive Vladimir Novakovski told investors on October 21 that Lighter plans to apply in November for two U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission registrations, one as a designated contract market and one as a derivatives clearing organization, according to Bitrue and AInvest. LIT jumped more than 20 percent on that announcement to about $3.90, then faded to about $3.08 by October 23, according to AInvest, before rallying again as November began. On November 1, LIT led gainers among the 90 largest cryptocurrencies excluding stablecoins with a 14.93 percent rise to $3.16, according to TokenPost via Pluang, a move MABOnChain covered the same day. CoinGecko's November 3 snapshot extends the run: LIT up 13.78 percent over seven days, down 2.79 percent over 30 days, ranked 80th by market capitalization, and still about 57 percent below its all-time high of $7.86, reached December 30, 2025. The token's trading range shows the same tension: a regulatory re-rating that has not yet produced a single filed document.
The filing that has not landed
The distinction between planned applications and actual approval remains essential, Bitrue noted, because no application has been submitted yet and nothing has been approved. If approved, the registrations would let Lighter offer regulated futures in the United States, a market its on-chain perpetuals exchange cannot serve in regulated form today, according to CoinStats. The filings have not yet been made, and the licensing process remains a key uncertainty for Lighter's expansion, Bitrue added. Lighter runs an order-book perpetual futures exchange on its own zero-knowledge rollup on Ethereum, with zero trading fees for standard accounts and user deposits held in self-custody, according to AInvest, and Datawallet data cited by AInvest put it at roughly $59 billion in trailing 30-day perpetual volume, about $748 million in total value locked, and third among perpetual exchanges by volume. That operating scale is the substance behind the bet: the filing, if it lands this month, would convert an offshore-style venue into a regulated U.S. venue, and if it slips, the premium has no floor, as AInvest put it.
Buybacks versus the December vesting wall
Two supply forces pull in opposite directions. On one side, Lighter has repurchased about $33.2 million of LIT since January, according to CoinStats, and disclosed a burn of 2,452,017 LIT bought back through the end of the third quarter of 2026, according to Bitrue. AInvest reported that Lighter's first revenue-funded burn removed about 15.5 million LIT, roughly 6.3 percent of circulating supply. On the other side, three quarters of LIT tokens are not yet in circulation, according to CoinStats, and vesting is scheduled to begin December 27. The November 2 unstaking transfer sits between those forces: a large holder freeing tokens just weeks before a vesting wave, in a month when the market is watching for a regulatory filing. Whether the transfer is the start of distribution or a simple repositioning is not visible in the on-chain data reported so far, and no source has tied the address to Lighter's team, an investor, or any other named party.
What comes next
Three dated markers decide whether the November rally holds. The first is the CFTC filing itself: Novakovski promised applications in November, and any filing, delay, or silence in the remaining weeks of the month reprices the story. The second is the whale wallet: further transfers from the 0x14A address to exchanges, or a reversal back into staking, will show whether the $12.21 million move was distribution. The third is December 27, when vesting begins on the roughly 75 percent of supply still locked, a supply event that dwarfs any single whale transfer. Until then, LIT trades on expectation: a $3.35 token, up 8.82 percent in a day, carrying a regulatory promise that has not yet been filed and a whale transfer that has not yet been explained. CFTC Clears Equity Perpetual Futures for U.S. Stock Markets for the First Time
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission said on November 3, 2026 that perpetual futures contracts on individual equity securities, called Equity Perps, can begin trading for the first time on CFTC-registered exchanges, after the contracts were deemed approved under Commission Regulation 40.3 as security futures products under the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. The contracts fall under joint oversight of the CFTC and the Securities and Exchange Commission, and only designated contract markets dually registered with the SEC as notice-registered national securities exchanges for security futures products may list them. Chairman Michael S. Selig did not name any exchange or stock that will trade first, and no first trade has been reported, so the announcement is a clearance to begin, not a launch report. Filings from Kalshi, Coinbase Derivatives and Bitnomial outline the proposed terms, including a 15.50 percent minimum customer margin at Kalshi, 23-hour weekday trading, and funding payments that keep contract prices near the underlying stock price.
Kraken Restricts Accounts Amid Suspected $133 Million EU Crypto Theft
Kraken said on November 3, 2026 that it has restricted accounts linked to a suspected theft of more than $133 million from an unidentified European Union entity and is working with law enforcement to support recovery, after blockchain investigator ZachXBT raised his estimate from $106 million on November 2 to more than $133 million on November 3. Blockchain analytics firm Bitquery traced $108.8 million in USDC withdrawn from accounts at Kraken, Crypto.com and OKX over about 21 hours on November 1 and 2, and found $61 million still sitting in Ethereum wallets linked to the suspected thief as of 13:27 UTC on November 3, while Tether has frozen $1.14 million in USDT and Circle has frozen none of the $2.53 million in USDC that remains. The victim has not been identified, Kraken said its own systems were not compromised, and the alleged cover-up claimed by ZachXBT remains unverified.
Tether Holds About 150,000 Bitcoin Worth $11.5 Billion, CEO Ardoino Says at Lugano Forum
Tether chief executive Paolo Ardoino said on November 3, 2026 that the stablecoin issuer holds about 150,000 Bitcoin worth roughly $11.5 billion, a figure disclosed during his keynote at the Plan B Forum in Lugano, Switzerland, and about 50,000 coins more than the holdings implied by Tether's third-quarter reserve attestation. That attestation, prepared by accounting firm BDO, lists $8.37 billion in Bitcoin valued at $83,621.23 per coin as of September 30, 2026, which implies about 100,060 BTC, up about 1,130 coins from roughly 98,930 at the end of June. Ardoino did not say where the additional coins sit or when Tether acquired them, so the gap does not prove a fresh 50,000 BTC purchase, and holdings held through Tether Investments would fall outside the reserve report. The disclosure puts Tether behind only Strategy among major corporate Bitcoin holders, according to CryptoNews, while Tether's own figures show $132.4 billion in US Treasury securities including repurchase agreements and $7.95 billion in excess reserves.
Mercado Bitcoin Hacker Moves $8 Million in ETH as Frozen Total Passes $9 Million
The hacker behind Mercado Bitcoin's November 2 breach moved about $8 million in Ethereum to new wallets on November 3, 2026, according to blockchain analytics firm Arkham, which asked whether the funds could next reach Tornado Cash while confirming no deposit into the mixer had been identified. The transfers included about 2,900 ETH worth $6.52 million plus smaller moves of 470 ETH and 200 ETH, and they came as investigators pushed the frozen total past $9 million, up from the $4.5 million in USDT Tether froze on November 2, according to Chainalysis. The attacker still controls about $46 million in cryptocurrency, including large holdings of PEPE, AAVE, PENDLE and ONDO that tracker Lookonchain warned could pressure those tokens if sold.
