Uniswap ($UNI) Jumps 7% as SEC Governance Guidance Eases Fears and Bitcoin Rebound Lifts Altcoins
Published November 5, 2026, 10:00 AM PKT. Based on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's November 2, 2026 crypto asset FAQ update as reported by CoinTurk and KuCoin (primary reporting on the guidance), CoinGecko's trending data and Binance market data checked November 5, 2026 (primary market data), and CoinStats, TradersUnion and CoinGabbar reporting from November 3 to 4, 2026 (secondary sources).
Uniswap ($UNI) traded near $7.70 on November 5, 2026, up about 7% over 24 hours, landing the token on CoinGecko's trending list as Bitcoin ($BTC) rebounded and lifted altcoins with it. CoinGecko's trending snapshot put Uniswap ($UNI) at $7.70, up 7.6% over 24 hours, while Binance spot data checked the same morning showed $7.69, up 6.8% over 24 hours, with a $7.82 high and a $7.18 low and about $66.8 million in 24 hour quote volume. The move extends a two day climb: Uniswap ($UNI) closed November 4 at $7.63 on Binance, up 5.6% from the November 3 close of $7.22, on 9.15 million tokens traded, well above the roughly 5.8 million traded on each of the two prior days. The immediate trigger is regulatory, not technical. On November 2, the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance added three entries, questions 1.4 to 1.6, to its crypto asset FAQ, addressing the question that has hung over governance tokens for years: does handing voting rights to thousands of holders make them a central party?
The SEC answer: voting alone does not make a central party
The staff answer, as reported by CoinTurk and KuCoin, is generally no, provided the network is genuinely decentralized. Participants in a functional crypto system generally will not be treated as a group forming a central party solely because they participate in governance, if they are unaffiliated and have no separate agreement or understanding to act together beyond that participation, according to the updated FAQ. Uniswap ($UNI) is the prominent example in the coverage because its holders vote on protocol matters including fee parameters, treasury allocations and possible minting, and the FAQ's logic applies directly to that arrangement. The staff also drew the line on the other side: a person or entity able to grant or restrict network access, alter voting processes, select validators, modify code, reverse transactions or revoke user privileges may indicate centralized control. The update builds on the joint SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission interpretation of March 17, 2026, which set out a taxonomy for digital assets, and it addresses the digital commodity discussion in section III of that framework. Two limits matter and are stated plainly in the coverage. First, the FAQ is staff guidance, not a binding rule and not a Commission position, so a future regulator could read the issue differently. Second, it does not declare Uniswap ($UNI), or any specific token, a commodity or settle whether any particular token is a security. The overhang is narrower, not gone.
The market move: volume confirms the break
The price action has volume behind it, which is what separates this move from a thin rebound. Binance daily data shows Uniswap ($UNI) rising from a November 3 close of $7.22 to a November 4 close of $7.63, with daily volume jumping to 9.15 million tokens from 5.76 million on November 3 and 5.92 million on November 2. CoinStats reported 24 hour trading volume of about $877 million on November 4, with Uniswap ($UNI) up 5.1% in that snapshot, and TradersUnion reported the token trading at $7.49 on November 4, up 6.07% on the day and closing near the session high, with the Ichimoku Kijun line at $7.17 marking immediate support. Context tempers the excitement. Uniswap ($UNI) remains down more than 20% from its September 22 peak of $10.22, according to COINOTAG, and CoinStats put the 30 day change at down 16.07% even as the 7 day change turned positive at 5.4%. Protocol fundamentals are mixed: DeFiLlama data cited by CoinStats showed the protocol generating $1.82 million in fees over 24 hours, up 4.6%, while Uniswap v4 total value locked stood at $1.094 billion on November 2, down from an all time high of $1.623 billion on October 20. The token is bouncing from a depressed base, not breaking to new highs.
Robinhood Chain, Token Jar, and the eighth anniversary
The regulatory news landed in a busy product week for the protocol. On November 2, Uniswap announced that its VolatilePair Hook is live on Robinhood Chain, according to CoinStats, extending its hook system for volatile pairs to the new chain. On October 29, Uniswap Labs released the Token Jar ($TJAR), a permissionless system that converts an app's onchain fees into a token of the app's choice, with Robinhood as the first partner, according to the same report. And the token's rise coincided with Uniswap marking its eighth anniversary, with founder Hayden Adams saying, in a post relayed by crypto analyst Giannis Andreou on X and reported by CoinGabbar, that Uniswap is now the second largest spot trading venue across decentralized and centralized exchanges, behind only Binance, climbing from zero to 31% in its spot market share comparison with Binance. That claim comes from a single social media post relaying the founder's words, so readers should treat it as unverified, not as audited market data. The verifiable product facts, the Robinhood Chain hook and the Token Jar launch, stand on their own and give the anniversary more substance than a birthday post.
What the guidance does not settle
Three open questions keep this from being a clean all clear. First, the FAQ's test is facts and circumstances: broad based, transparent, rules based governance helps, but concentrated or delegated authority can still indicate a central party, so each protocol must still show its voting power is widely distributed. Second, the guidance covers only the digital commodity discussion, not every securities law question, and it does not apply to group related definitions under the Securities Act or the Exchange Act, according to The Bit Journal's reading of the update. Third, Uniswap ($UNI) now carries a live value accrual mechanism that the market is still pricing: the fee switch passed in December 2025 with more than 125 million votes in favor, protocol fees now accrue on all v2 pools and select v3 pools and are used to burn Uniswap ($UNI), and Uniswap executed a 100 million token burn from its treasury worth about $596 million at the time, according to CoinStats. From January through July 2026, the protocol generated about $28.2 million in protocol revenue against about $297.9 million in trading fees, roughly 9.5%, so the burn story is real but small relative to trading activity. TradersUnion's near term range of $6.62 to $7.78 over the next two to three sessions frames the immediate trade: holding above $7.17 keeps the rebound intact, while a loss of that support reopens the slide toward the September to October lows.

South Korea Orders Full Inspections of 580 Financial Firms After 473,000 Records Leak
South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) has ordered full inspections of about 580 financial companies and warned chief executives they will be held personally accountable for poor security, after 37 firms reported 40 breach incidents between September 30 and November 3, 2026 that leaked about 473,000 personal records and saw about 1 billion won, roughly $740,000, stolen. The measures were finalized at an all-sector meeting on November 5, 2026 chaired by FSC Chairman Lee Eok-won. Three virtual asset operators were among the affected firms, and hot wallet assets held mainly by small virtual asset exchanges were among the stolen funds, so crypto platforms are inside the inspection net, not outside it. Registered systems must be inspected by November 30 and unregistered systems and internal controls by the end of the year.
Canton Strategic Completes First Tokenized U.S. Stock Trade Under SEC Innovation Exemption
Canton Strategic Holdings (NASDAQ: CNTN) has completed the first trades of its issuer-sponsored tokenized common stock under the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Innovation Exemption, the company announced November 4, 2026. The trades ran November 4 on TSV LLC, the permissioned venue for tokenized stocks on the Canton Network, through a permissioned pool on Tradecraft, the automated market maker protocol that powers the venue. Existing shareholder Five North sold tokenized shares to DRW Cumberland, with Flowdesk providing liquidity and Fairmint TA LLC, an SEC-registered transfer agent, recording the shares in token form. CryptoBriefing put the first trade at about 14,461 shares for roughly $30,296, or about $2.08 per share. The tokenized shares carry the same rights as the stock traded on Nasdaq, and settlement was atomic on the Canton Network, meaning shares and payment moved together or not at all.
Binance Says 98% of Stolen Assets Replenished as Proof of Reserves Expands to 44 Tokens
Binance says it has replenished about 98% of the assets affected by its October 29 security incident, up from 95% in its November 2 update, and has expanded its proof of reserves to cover 44 tokens, up from 10, according to Recovery Update #7 published November 4, 2026. The exchange says it has set aside more than 100% of the funds needed from its own resources and will bear the full losses itself, not its users. A new proof of reserves snapshot taken at 00:00 UTC on November 4 covers 44 tokens, but the full zero knowledge proof that lets users verify their own balances will take about 50 to 60 hours to generate, so self verification for the wider token set is still pending. The remaining 2% consists of less liquid tokens Binance is still buying through market and over the counter channels, with no completion date given.
Mercado Bitcoin to Reopen in Phases From November 9, Pledging to Cover Hack Losses
Mercado Bitcoin, Brazil's largest crypto exchange, will begin restoring customer access in phases from Monday, November 9, 2026, a week after a November 2 security incident that drained tens of millions of dollars from its hot wallets and customer deposit addresses. The first phase opens the website for balance checks only, with transfers, withdrawals and trading to follow module by module after independent security verification, according to reports of the exchange's update. Mercado Bitcoin says it will cover the affected assets from its own funds so customers suffer no losses, and says more than $15 million in stolen assets has already been frozen with help from Tether, Circle, Paxos, BRL1 and Chainalysis. The final loss total is still unsettled: the company has cited about $36.3 million affected, while outside analysts have traced at least $46 million.
