Gate Teams With Visa to Launch Crypto Card Across 40+ Markets
Published October 9, 2026, 04:45 UTC. Gate announced the partnership on Oct. 8, 2026.
Cryptocurrency exchange Gate announced a collaboration with Visa on Thursday, October 8, to launch a crypto-linked card that is expected to roll out across more than 40 markets globally, according to the company's press release distributed via GlobeNewswire. The card will let users pay online and in-store wherever Visa is accepted, connecting Gate accounts directly with real-world spending while the relevant crypto assets are automatically converted into fiat currency at the point of sale.
Crypto converts to fiat at the checkout
The mechanics are designed to be invisible to the user. When a purchase is made, Gate said the corresponding digital assets are converted to fiat at the checkout, so merchants receive standard Visa payments without handling cryptocurrency themselves, Visa's own card-process description mirrors that process. Users will apply for and manage the card through the Gate app, and details on supported markets, eligibility, supported assets and service availability sit on the product page, the announcement said. Gate also cautioned that country availability, eligibility requirements and service conditions depend on local regulations, and card services are not offered where prohibited by law. Crypto.news, reviewing Gate's current card documentation, reported that its Instant Spend Mode lists USDT, BTC, ETH and GT, that applicants must complete Level 2 identity verification, and that the October 8 announcement does not guarantee every Visa card in the 40-plus market rollout will support the same asset list.
The 40-market bet behind Gate Money
The card is one piece of Gate's push beyond trading. The company says it was founded in 2013 by Dr. Han, serves more than 61 million users, supports trading across 5,300+ crypto assets and 12,800+ stock assets, and was among the first platforms to implement 100% Proof of Reserves, according to the release. Gate has also launched Gate Money, a globally integrated financial services app that brings digital assets, fiat currencies, stocks, ETFs, gold, bank accounts and payments together in the Gate app, the announcement said. Eligible users can apply online for a global bank account held in their own name and manage receipts, transfers, asset conversions and payments in one place, with users told to update the Gate app to v8.39.0 to enable Gate Money. Founder and CEO Dr. Han said digital assets are gradually becoming part of everyday financial life and that the Visa partnership makes digital asset payments more intuitive and better aligned with everyday needs as the service launches across more than 40 countries and territories, per the release.
Visa says stablecoin card volume is up nearly 200 percent
The announcement leaned on Visa's scale: the payments network spans more than 175 million merchant locations across more than 200 countries and territories, the release said. Visa also disclosed that more than 160 stablecoin-linked card programmes are now live globally, with payment volume up nearly 200% year over year, framing the Gate deal as part of a fast-expanding crypto-card business. Nischint Sanghavi, Visa's head of digital currencies for APAC, said consumers want payment methods that are flexible, convenient and widely accepted, and that Visa looks forward to enabling more users to use digital assets wherever Visa is accepted through the Gate partnership, according to the release. The move follows a string of exchange-led payment pushes into everyday commerce, including crypto cards from rival exchanges and bank-integrated trading apps, as the industry tries to turn exchange balances into spendable money.
