Franklin Templeton Clears Final Step for Dividend-to-Bitcoin ETFs FBEQ and FIBT Ahead of October 27 Launch
Published October 24, 2026, 10:15 AM PKT. Based on Franklin Templeton ETF Trust's Form 8-A registration and prospectus filed with the SEC on October 22, 2026 (primary source), and reporting by CoinDesk, CryptoBriefing, Coin Edition, Blockchain Reporter and newisty (secondary sources).
Franklin Templeton has completed the final regulatory step for two exchange-traded funds that turn stock dividends into Bitcoin exposure. On October 22, 2026, the Franklin Templeton ETF Trust filed a Form 8-A with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to register the shares of the Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FBEQ) and the Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FIBT) for trading on Nasdaq under Section 12(b) of the Securities Exchange Act, according to CoinDesk reporting on the filing. A prospectus filed the same day carries an effective date of October 27, 2026, the first session the shares can trade. The two funds were first proposed in June 2026, when neither ticker symbols nor fees had been disclosed, according to KuCoin's account of the filing history. Four months later, the details are set, and the structure is a first of its kind at this scale: a mainstream equity fund whose dividend stream buys Bitcoin automatically.
The 95/5 split and the dividend engine
Both funds start with 95% of assets in U.S. stocks and 5% in Bitcoin exposure, and both send every regular and special dividend the stock sleeve pays into Bitcoin at the market open following the ex-dividend date, according to KuCoin's summary of the prospectus. The mechanism is what gives the funds their DRIP name. A traditional dividend reinvestment plan uses dividend cash to buy more shares of the company that paid it. Franklin's version redirects that cash toward Bitcoin instead, so each dividend payment nudges the Bitcoin weight higher. For holders, dividend flows from some of America's largest companies become a continuous stream of Bitcoin purchases, without opening a cryptocurrency exchange account, holding a wallet or choosing a custodian, according to KuCoin. The prospectus notes that investors can lose money and that Bitcoin price swings will affect the value of the funds, according to newisty's summary of the filing.
The two indexes: 500 large caps and 100 innovators
FBEQ tracks the VettaFi US Large-Cap 500 Bitcoin DRIP Index, which holds the 500 largest U.S. companies by market capitalization, weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, according to KuCoin. As of September 30, 2026, the index held 499 stocks, with market capitalizations ranging from $10.2 billion to $5.5 trillion and a concentration in the information technology sector. FIBT tracks the VettaFi US Innovation 100 Bitcoin DRIP Index, composed of the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq, according to KuCoin's account of the second fund. The difference between the two indexes matters for how fast the dividend engine runs. Growth-oriented, technology-heavy companies often pay smaller dividends than broad large-cap names, so the Bitcoin accumulation engine may run slower in FIBT than in FBEQ, according to TradingView's analysis of the filings. On cost, FBEQ carries an expense ratio of 0.09%, with no 12b-1 fees, and is managed by Franklin Advisory Services and co-advised by Franklin Templeton Institutional, according to KuCoin.
No direct Bitcoin, and a 20% cap
Neither fund holds Bitcoin directly on chain. Instead, both gain exposure through Bitcoin exchange-traded products, including Franklin's own spot Bitcoin ETF, EZBC, as well as futures, options or depositary receipts, partly through a subsidiary in the Cayman Islands, according to KuCoin. That design reuses infrastructure Franklin already operates: EZBC has drawn approximately $335 million in net inflows, according to TradingView, and now serves as the Bitcoin engine inside the new equity funds. The Bitcoin weight is a starting point, not a fixed ceiling, and it can drift above 5% between rebalances, whether from dividend inflows or price gains, according to CryptoBriefing. Two guardrails apply. At each quarterly rebalancing, any Bitcoin allocation above 5% is trimmed back to 4.5%. If the Bitcoin allocation passes 20% between two rebalancing events, it is cut back to 4.5% within two trading days, with the proceeds reinvested into equities, according to KuCoin. The cap keeps the products equity funds with a Bitcoin sleeve, not Bitcoin funds with a stock sleeve.
What the filing does and does not settle
The Form 8-A is the registration that puts shares on a live exchange, and it is the last filing step before trading, but it is not itself a launch. Coin Edition notes that Franklin Templeton has not separately announced a launch date beyond the prospectus effective date, and the filing does not disclose a trading commencement date. What is settled is the structure, the tickers, the indexes and the October 27 effective date. What is not settled is demand: no assets, flows or market reception exist yet for either fund, and the dividend-to-Bitcoin mechanism has never been tested at scale through a full dividend season. The funds arrive as U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $635.6 million in net outflows on Thursday, October 22, according to 01 Capital's flow reporting, a reminder that regulated Bitcoin demand is uneven even as the product shelf keeps widening. For Franklin, which oversees about $1.7 trillion in assets according to KuCoin, the two funds extend a crypto lineup that began with a spot Bitcoin ETF into the much larger pool of dividend-seeking equity investors.

Argentine Court Dismisses Milei Criminal Case Over $LIBRA Collapse
An Argentine federal judge dismissed the criminal investigation into President Javier Milei, his sister Karina Milei and nine other people over the February 2025 collapse of the $LIBRA meme coin, after prosecutor Eduardo Taiano asked for the case to be dropped, according to Reuters reporting on court records on October 23, 2026. Judge Marcelo Martinez de Giorgi found insufficient evidence of fraud, ruling that the token's price collapse alone did not prove a scam and that Milei's promotion of the token was a personal act, not an abuse of state power. The ruling closes the Argentine criminal proceedings covered by the order, but it does not reverse investor losses, which Bitcoin.com put at nearly $110 million across more than 40,000 investors.
