Editorial digital-art illustration in the CoinTelegraph style: two glowing cyan and gold spherical trading-hub orbs colliding and merging into one larger luminous sphere at the center, swirling liquidity streams and holographic candlestick charts spiraling around them, deep navy-blue and indigo background with circuit lines and constellation nodes, coins dissolving into light trails between the orbs, rich blues and golds, 16:9 wide composition.

Published October 16, 2026, 22:15 PKT. Based on Binance public market data for the AEROUSDT pair (primary), TradingView News reporting on the Aerodrome-Velodrome merger via The Defiant (October 10, 2026), and secondary reporting by Pluang, coinstats and tradersunion/Tokenpost through October 16, 2026.

Aerodrome's AERO token spiked to an intraday high of $0.9807 on Binance on October 16, 2026, before retracing to about $0.86 by late in the session, according to Binance spot data for the AEROUSDT pair. The 24-hour change printed at negative 2.97% on Binance at 17:13 UTC even after the intraday push, a sign that sellers absorbed the spike. The move comes five days before Aerodrome and Velodrome Finance begin merging into a single cross-chain decentralized exchange on October 21.

The October 21 merger terms

The combination is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. ET on October 21, 2026, according to TradingView News' report on The Defiant's coverage. The two exchanges will fold into one protocol called Aero designed to run across seven Ethereum-compatible networks: Base, Ethereum, OP, Arc, Ink, Robinhood Chain and Arbitrum, per Pluang. Existing AERO converts into the new AERO at a 1:1 ratio, while VELO holders receive about 0.044 new AERO per token. Of the new token supply, 94.5% goes to Aerodrome stakeholders and 5.5% to Velodrome stakeholders, making this less a merger of equals than an absorption. Legacy token emissions will stop as part of the transition. Post-merger, holders of sAERO will see real-time reward allocation replace the current weekly voting system, and the new setup directs 100% of protocol revenue to participants, the TradingView report said. DeFiLlama data put Aerodrome's total value locked at $396.3 million on October 10, up from $339.1 million in mid-September, per coinstats, with combined TVL around $422 million at the time of the announcement.

Arthur Hayes buys as revenue hits a yearly high

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes bought about 546,600 AERO, worth roughly $460,000, on October 15, according to Pluang's market reporting, which tracked the wallets. The purchase landed a day before the intraday spike. Protocol fundamentals have strengthened alongside the price: September platform revenue reached a yearly high of $7.92 million, and AERO trading volumes nearly tripled ahead of the token unification as participants realign, per Tokenpost via tradersunion. Coinbase market insights data cited by coinstats showed unique AERO traders up 46% over 24 hours with buyers outnumbering sellers.

A 75% monthly run, still 60% under the peak

The merger positioning caps a strong stretch: AERO is up about 75.48% over 30 days, per coinstats, after trading between $0.68 and $0.84 in early October. Binance daily candles show the rally broke higher on October 10, when AERO rose from $0.80 to $0.94 on $10.8 million of quote volume. The token remains about 60.27% below its all-time high of $2.32, per coinstats, with roughly 1.004 billion AERO of a 2.002 billion total supply in circulation.
