Strategy Inc (Nasdaq: MSTR) bought 334 bitcoin between October 1 and October 4 for about $28.7 million, at an average of about $85,838.8 per coin including fees, according to an 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on October 5. Holdings as of 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time on October 4 stood at 848,000 BTC, bought for about $63.97 billion at an average of about $75,440.7 including fees.
How the buy was funded
Of the $28.7 million spent on bitcoin, $15.7 million came from net proceeds of the company's at-the-market (ATM) program for Class A common stock (MSTR), and $13.0 million came from USD Cash, the filing said. From October 1 to 4, Strategy sold 92,894 MSTR shares for $15.7 million in net proceeds and said those proceeds funded bitcoin purchases.
There were no bitcoin purchases from September 28 to September 30. As of September 30, holdings were 847,666 BTC, bought for about $63.95 billion at an average of about $75,436.6, according to the same 8-K.
Preferred stock buybacks
In the same October 1 to 4 window, Strategy repurchased 740,634 shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC) for $73.7 million, funded with USD Cash. For the three months ended September 30, Strategy estimates a $20.91 billion gain on digital assets and a digital asset carrying value of $70.82 billion. Those figures are management estimates; the company's independent auditor has not audited or reviewed them, the 8-K said.
The company's Bitcoin ledger has previously shown that Strategy has not only been buying this year. Entries dated June 1, June 30, July 6, August 3 and August 10 record net reductions in holdings, before buying resumed with 4,603 BTC reported on August 31.
