GraniteShares Delays 3X Leveraged Crypto ETFs to Nov 30
Published October 27, 2026, 8:45 PM PKT. Based on the GraniteShares ETF Trust filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission dated October 26, 2026 (primary source), and reports by KuCoin, CoinTurk and CoinPedia published October 27, 2026 (secondary sources).
GraniteShares ETF Trust has pushed back the effective date for its eight proposed 3X leveraged crypto ETFs to November 30, 2026, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) dated October 26, 2026. The filing covers 3X long and 3X short daily ETFs for Bitcoin, Ether, Solana and XRP, and it states that its sole purpose is to delay the effectiveness of an earlier registration amendment covering those eight funds. The document gives no reason for the new date, and it does not say the SEC rejected the products. For investors waiting on the first triple-leveraged crypto ETFs in the United States, the practical effect is simple: none of the eight funds can launch before November 30, 2026.
The eight funds and the November 30 date
The filing, Post-Effective Amendment No. 656 to the trust's Form N-1A registration statement, designates November 30, 2026 as the new effective date for Post-Effective Amendment No. 107, the earlier amendment that relates to the eight funds. The eight are the GraniteShares 3x Long Bitcoin Daily ETF, 3x Short Bitcoin Daily ETF, 3x Long Ether Daily ETF, 3x Short Ether Daily ETF, 3x Long Solana Daily ETF, 3x Short Solana Daily ETF, 3x Long XRP Daily ETF and 3x Short XRP Daily ETF. The amendment was signed in New York on October 26, 2026 by William Rhind, the trust's president, and it was filed under Rule 485(b) of the Securities Act of 1933, the rule that governs post-effective amendments. KuCoin, CoinTurk and CoinPedia all reported the same eight funds and the same November 30, 2026 date on October 27, 2026.
November 30 is an effective date for the registration amendment, not a guaranteed trading launch date. As KuCoin noted in its October 27, 2026 report, the updated filing sets the planned effective date but does not guarantee all eight funds will begin trading on that day. Further steps, including exchange listing and final fund readiness, still stand between an effective registration and shares trading on an exchange. Readers should therefore treat November 30 as the earliest date the paperwork allows, not as a confirmed first trading day.
What the filing does and does not say
The filing is notable for what it leaves out. It does not attribute the delay to the SEC, to market conditions, or to any problem with the funds, and it does not describe any change to the funds' strategies, fees or structure. That silence matters because it rules out the most dramatic reading: this is a postponement initiated through the issuer's own amendment, not an SEC rejection order, and no part of the document says the products are blocked. CoinPedia's October 27, 2026 report made the same point, noting that the document does not say the SEC rejected the products or explicitly identify the reason behind the revised timeline.
The delay also does not touch the rest of the crypto ETF pipeline. The filing covers only the eight GraniteShares leveraged funds named in Amendment No. 107. It has no bearing on spot crypto ETFs already trading, on other issuers' leveraged products, or on the separate question of whether exchanges may list leveraged funds, which is governed by exchange rule filings rather than by this registration amendment.
Why the timing matters: midterms and the Fed
The new date lands after two events that are shaping risk appetite right now. The United States holds midterm elections on November 3, 2026, when all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats are contested, and the results could affect control of Congress and the future of crypto legislation, CoinPedia and KuCoin both noted on October 27, 2026. The Federal Reserve is also meeting October 27-28, 2026, and is widely expected to hold interest rates at 3.75 percent to 4.00 percent, according to KuCoin's report. Launching the most leveraged crypto products ever offered to U.S. retail investors into that uncertainty would have meant debuting them days before an election that could reshape the regulatory backdrop.
None of the reporting ties the delay to either event directly, and the filing itself gives no reason, so any claim that GraniteShares delayed because of the elections or the Fed would be speculation. What can be said is that the calendar now gives the issuer, and the market, a month of distance from both events before the funds can go effective. That gap also gives investors time to weigh a product type that behaves very differently from a plain spot ETF.
Leveraged ETFs and the daily reset warning
A 3X daily ETF targets three times the daily price move of its underlying asset, in either direction, using instruments such as swaps and futures, according to KuCoin's October 27, 2026 report. Because the exposure resets every day, returns over weeks or months can diverge sharply from three times the underlying asset's return, especially in choppy markets where gains and losses compound against the holder. That daily reset is the defining risk of leveraged ETFs, and it is why regulators and issuers alike treat them as short-term trading tools rather than buy-and-hold investments.
The GraniteShares delay stands in contrast to a separate leveraged ETF development reported this month. The SEC cleared a Cboe BZX exchange rule change covering Volatility Shares' proposed 3X Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, under an SEC order dated October 2, 2026, as reported by InsideBitcoins on October 27, 2026. That order signs off on the exchange's listing rule change alone and does not authorize the funds themselves to sell shares, and the agency has taken no action in the intervening weeks on the funds' registration statements, according to the same report. The two developments together describe a pipeline that is moving but not yet open: one issuer's listing path cleared, another issuer's effective date pushed to November 30, and no 3X crypto ETF trading yet.
What to watch next is straightforward. November 30, 2026 is the date the GraniteShares amendment goes effective, if nothing changes before then. Any further amendment would show up in SEC filings before that date, and any exchange listing notice would confirm whether trading follows. Until then, the eight funds remain filed, delayed, and unlaunched, and the November 30 date is the only firm date on the calendar.
