An institution-only crypto exchange is going deeper into tokenized Bitcoin. EDX Markets, the institution-only digital asset venue with a central clearinghouse, announced a strategic partnership with VerifiedX on October 8 to bring Verified Bitcoin (vBTC), a tokenized form of Bitcoin, to EDX for institutional spot trading, according to a GlobeNewswire press release issued by VerifiedX. Under the deal, EDX will also join the VerifiedX network as a validator, extending its role from trading venue into the infrastructure that secures the token.

A 1:1 tokenized Bitcoin with Taproot inside

Unlike conventional Bitcoin products that rely on synthetic exposure or passive custody, vBTC is designed to activate Bitcoin as programmable, self-custodial capital while keeping 1:1 underlying Bitcoin collateralization and native redemption liquidity back to Bitcoin at all times, the release said. Every vBTC token represents Bitcoin collateralized one-to-one by underlying BTC, with Taproot addresses embedded in each token, and is built with an evergreen redemption path back to native Bitcoin, according to the release. A canonical EVM representation, vBTC.b, extends the same redemption path to supported Ethereum-compatible environments, letting Bitcoin capital participate in decentralized financial markets while keeping a direct route back to the underlying asset.

EDX joins as a validator

The validator role is the structural core of the deal. EDX joining the VerifiedX network as a validator gives it direct participation in network validation and governance, extending the relationship beyond asset trading into the underlying infrastructure supporting vBTC, the release said. The architecture lets any allocator operate its own VerifiedX validators and control its own threshold-signing configuration, so institutions are not required to rely on the public validator pool, according to the release.

Jay Pollak, Head of Strategy at the VerifiedX Foundation, said Bitcoin "does not need another financial abstraction" but "needs infrastructure that allows the asset itself to do more," adding that the combination of liquidity, programmability, institutional control and evergreen Bitcoin redemption is an important step toward Bitcoin becoming active programmable financial infrastructure, according to the release.

The strategies it unlocks

The partnership targets a range of institutional strategies: Bitcoin trading and price discovery through institutional spot markets, cross-market arbitrage and liquidity strategies between BTC and vBTC markets, treasury and balance-sheet mobility between trading and programmable environments, borrowing, lending and yield strategies built on Bitcoin-backed capital, and EVM composability through vBTC.b, according to the release. Through EDX, participants gain a venue for trading vBTC inside an institutional market structure built around aggregated liquidity, central clearing and capital-efficient settlement, the companies said.

A deeper Wall Street push into tokenized Bitcoin

David Olsson, Chief Commercial Officer of EDX Markets, said institutional adoption of digital assets increasingly depends on giving sophisticated market participants greater flexibility in how they trade, move and deploy capital, according to the release. The move lands as tokenized Bitcoin products compete to serve institutional demand for yield and programmability on idle BTC, a race that also saw Sui's Hashi line up $500 million in Bitcoin finance commitments this week. EDX, which describes itself as backed by some of the world's leading trading and venture capital firms, operates a spot trading venue with a central clearinghouse designed to reduce bilateral counterparty exposure, according to the release. The companies said additional details on vBTC and EDX will be announced in the coming weeks.

Bitwise will liquidate its spot Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) less than a year after listing on NYSE Arca, with trading ending October 14, 2026 and cash distributed to shareholders around October 22. CEO Hunter Horsley called the outcome tragic, blaming a gap between ETF buyers and crypto app users, as the fund held only about $725,870 against $1.3 billion in Bitwise's Solana staking ETF.

Charles Hoskinson Slams Vitalik Buterin's AI Cryptography Warning as Panic

October 9, 2026 · 4 min read

Charles Hoskinson lashed out at Vitalik Buterin on October 8 over Buterin's warning that AI-accelerated mathematics could weaken lattice-based cryptography within two years. Hoskinson called the statements panic and baseless fears, accused Buterin of bag-holding hash-based crypto research, and warned that undermining confidence in lattice standards could harm the cybersecurity industry and the post-quantum transition.
