Coinbase Revives Pro Trading and Merges U.S. and Global Crypto Derivatives Into One Exchange
Published October 7, 2026, 12:45 UTC. Based on Coinbase's announcement at TOKEN2049 Singapore (Oct. 6, 2026) as reported by The Block, and reporting by Crypto Briefing and MPost.
Coinbase is bringing back its Pro trading brand and says it has finished wiring Deribit into a new global exchange. The announcements came at the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore on October 6, 2026, The Block reported, in what amounts to the biggest restructuring of Coinbase's trading business since it folded Pro into its main app in 2022.
The $2.9 billion Deribit deal
Coinbase bought Deribit, one of the world's largest crypto options exchanges, for about $2.9 billion in August 2025, The Block reported. Deribit held more than $30 billion in Bitcoin options open interest as of September 30, 2026, and processed over $1 trillion in trading volume in the preceding year, according to figures Coinbase cited.
The integration is now complete, and Coinbase says the combined entity is called Coinbase Global Exchange. A key step wrapped up on October 1, 2026, when clients of the Coinbase International Exchange were migrated onto Deribit and the legacy platform switched to read-only mode, Crypto Briefing reported.
The single liquidity pool pitch
"For the first time in market history, we are connecting U.S. and international derivatives markets into a single liquidity pool," Coinbase said, according to The Block. Coinbase Financial Markets, the company's U.S.-regulated futures commission merchant, will connect eligible U.S. clients to global crypto derivatives liquidity.
The structure rests on guidance the Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued in May 2026, which allows Coinbase Financial Markets to route U.S. clients into global crypto derivatives markets, The Block reported. That gives U.S. institutional clients a regulated route to options and perpetual futures that previously required offshore entities, multiple counterparties and separate trading venues.
Deribit-powered options, spot margin and unified portfolios will roll out in the coming weeks, the company said. Traders outside the United States who are eligible get options access first, U.S. retail access is expected later this year, and U.S. institutional clients can already begin onboarding to trade Deribit options and perpetual futures through Coinbase Prime, alongside spot, futures, custody, financing and staking on a single platform.
The Pro comeback and the 10x margin lever
The relaunched Coinbase Pro, set to arrive by the end of 2026, is rebuilt from the ground up with faster order routing, improved execution flows and advanced tools aimed at high-volume active traders, Coinbase said. The platform will cover spot trading, futures, perpetual contracts, options and stocks, as part of the company's expanding "Everything Exchange" strategy, MPost reported.
The original Coinbase Pro was retired in 2022 when advanced trading moved into the main app, a transition completed in November 2023. Its return signals that Coinbase sees renewed demand for a dedicated professional trading venue, according to Crypto Briefing's account of the announcement.
Spot margin is the headline trading feature. Eligible traders will be able to borrow against collateral for leverage of up to 10 times on selected major assets and up to 5 times on other supported assets, The Block reported. Coinbase has also added a new high-performance matching engine, shortened its retail onboarding process, and restructured fee tiers for Coinbase Advanced so they activate at just $10,000 in qualifying volume across combined spot and derivatives trading.
