Bitcoin Rebounds to $83K After Trump Rules Out Iran Strike Before Midterms, XRP ETFs the Only Green

Bitcoin climbed back above $83,000 on Friday, gaining more than 2% in 24 hours, after U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States would not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections. Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday that Washington was having "productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran," while adding that the U.S. blockade would continue. CoinDesk's live market desk reported that bitcoin had rebounded from a Thursday low near $80,300 and was trading near $82,500 to $83,000, though it headed into the weekend about 4% lower than the same time the previous Friday. Ether traded near $2,490, down about 9% on the week. Brent crude slipped about 1% to around $103 a barrel, according to CCN, and WTI eased back to about $90.69 after surging toward $93.20 on escalation fears, per Binance's market roundup. Gold also moved higher, rising more than 1% to trade above $4,180 an ounce.
The $729 million ETF outflow streak
The rebound did not stop institutional money from leaving. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs shed about $244 million on Thursday after $485 million on Wednesday, taking two-day outflows to roughly $729 million, the heaviest two-day outflow since June, according to SoSoValue data cited by CoinDesk. Ether funds lost about $73 million, SOL funds about $3 million, and the lone U.S. spot ZEC ETF shed about $19 million, its fifth outflow in six trading days this month. The ZEC outflows add up to about $86 million in October, erasing roughly a third of the fund's cumulative net inflows since launch. The outflows landed the same day about $1.19 billion in leveraged crypto bets were liquidated, the mechanism that turns a price decline into a cascade when funding rates are elevated, as Binance's market desk described it. The two-day outflow followed a nine-session inflow streak of about $3.1 billion that had been the structural floor under the recovery narrative.
XRP funds the only ones in green
U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds drew about $8 million on Thursday, the only crypto ETF group with net inflows, according to SoSoValue. All of the XRP flows went into Franklin Templeton's XRPZ, which added about 6 million XRP, while the other four XRP funds saw no flows. XRP funds have now taken in about $1.81 billion since launch, ahead of the about $1.59 billion that has gone into SOL ETFs, a quiet changing of the guard in the altcoin ETF race. Investors pulled money from everything else: bitcoin, ether, SOL and ZEC funds all recorded Thursday outflows.
The $82,000 to $83,300 resistance zone
Analysts are now watching two levels. Giottus CEO Subburaj's immediate support sits at $81,000, with a sustained break exposing $80,000 and then about $77,200 in on-chain support, according to Binance's roundup. BitDelta's Manhar Singh Garewal said reclaiming $82,000 alongside ETH above $2,500 could stabilize conditions, while a break below $80,316 would increase downside risk. Above, $82,000 to $83,300 is the key recovery resistance zone. Smaller tokens led the bounce, with the CoinDesk 80 up 2.2% since midnight UTC, more than twice the gain in the CoinDesk 5, though the broader CoinDesk 100 index remained about 2.2% lower over 24 hours. Starknet's STRK jumped 33% after the network said it is considering becoming a standalone layer-1 blockchain to achieve full quantum resistance by 2027. U.S. equity futures also rose on the back of Trump's comments, with Nasdaq 100 index futures up 0.83% since midnight and S&P 500 futures adding 0.44%.

France Backs 2027 Tax on Crypto-to-Stablecoin Swaps and a Crypto Exit Tax
France's National Assembly Finance Committee has approved a package of crypto tax amendments in the 2027 Finance Bill: conversions of crypto into fiat-pegged stablecoins would become taxable events from January 1, 2027, investors could carry realized crypto losses forward for 10 years, and an exit tax would hit unrealized gains when households holding more than 800,000 euros in crypto move abroad. The proposals, adopted October 7-8 in committee, are not law yet; the full Assembly begins examining the bill on October 13.
Strategy Tells MSCI "Bitcoin Doesn't Need You" as $2.8B Index Risk Hangs Over MSTR
Bitcoin treasury company Strategy publicly rejected MSCI's proposal to screen out "non-operating companies" from its global equity indexes, saying index providers should reflect markets rather than influence corporate asset allocation. MSCI's own May 2026 simulation would delete Strategy, Metaplanet and Yellow Cake from the MSCI ACWI IMI, a move JPMorgan estimated could force $2.8 billion in passive selling of MSTR shares.
HSBC and Ant Digital Complete AI-Agent Payment Test Using Tokenized Deposits
HSBC and Ant Digital Technologies have completed a technical verification test in which an AI agent discovered a digital service, paid for it with a tokenized bank deposit of under $2 and settled the payment in real time. The test combined HSBC's Tokenised Deposit Service with Ant Digital's Anvita Flow network and Jovay Testnet blockchain, with real-time risk checks through HSBC's MCP interface. Both companies stress it was exploration only, not a commercial launch.
